the best happy moment in the last year happened just this Saturday. i babysat a little boy for over 3 years. from the time he was born. last year his mom and dad moved to Florida. now this child is the grandchild i will never have. he calls us gandy and poppy. anyway, we got a letter this weekend from them. they apologized for not being there for us through this ordeal (how come people avoid you? you can not catch grief). they promised to not do that anymore and are sending pictures of WesLee. he colored a picture for us which we framed and put where the whole world can see it. we are trying to plan a trip to see him. pray that this works out. UPDATE: i haven't heard from my little guy yet. it has been a couple of weeks. in my letter to them i asked if we could come see them and i have had no response. i am scared that they did not mean it that we were important to them. i have read the one letter over and over. i run to the mail each day to see if anything has come. do you think they were not telling the truth? am i worrying over something i have no right to....i mean he isn't really a grandchild to us. we just feel like he is the grandchild we will never have now. am i being silly to want something i have no right to?

I don't think your being silly at all. It sounds like you have quite a bond with that child.
Give it time though, they are just probably busy, you know how time gets away from you. I do think it would have been nice to respond to your request of a visit.
I hope you hear from them soon, I can't wait to hear that you have.
love pam

We've all ignored this post far too long. I know we have had happy moments so I will get us back on track with mine. Last night I had my call from the director of a show I auditioned for. I will be in "Once Upon A Matress" as the Nightingale of Samarkand. I will be dressed in a bird suit and will be pushed out onto stage sitting on a perch. My song will be easy word wise, um make that bird wise. Caw caw caw caw caw. ;D I will also be in the chorus. I had wanted the queen part but she doesn't get to sing much, would be fun though. I am just thrilled to be in the show and having the camaraderie of rehearsals ahead. ;D
Who's next?

Hi all - think this fits under the "Happy Moments" though it is more than a moment. Had a good trip down and am enjoying Dartmouth very much. Ken drove me around land near the ocean today - some very beautiful spots. Ken and Kenneth and I fit together like well oiled hinges. Kenneth invited me to sleep with him my first night there! I took it as a great compliment but declined . It feels like home here. Love you all Joan

Linda, I love hearing about your plays. I can tell it brings you great enjoyment!
Joan, I truly am happy you have found someone to share your life with.
OK, I'll share a happy moment too. Going to dinner with DH, David, Amanda and David's g/f last night. It was just good to be together with them since Amanda got married and David is pretty much living on his own now. We haven't all been together for quite some time.

It is a HUGE happy moment here. I finally got the news today I am 5 years cancer free! Five years ago at this time I was pretty out of it after surgery . I called the doctor's office to check the results of my Pap and everything came back fine. I have been on pins and needles. It was just so importatn to me to be able to say 5 years with confidence today. This is a VERY happy moment.

I have a happy moment to share! When we were married almost 40 years ago we were supporting ourselves and going to college and money was so tight. Gary gave me a pearl engagement ring, thinking to get a diamond in the first few years after we were married, then 10 years, then 20, etc. THIS June is our 40th anniversary and a few weeks ago we went jewelry shopping and he got me a beautiful diamond solitaire! I am so elated to have it. ANOTHER happy moment is on New Years' Day we were told the happy news that our oldest son and wife are having a second child! We didn't think that would happen so we are overjoyed waiting the arrival of this new little one!

Went out to dinner tonight with 2 other couples just like we used to do before Eric died. It felt wonderful. We all share the same Amish cleaning lady and have for the past 15 years. She and her sister are trying to start another business. They are inviting the public, by reservation only into their home for an Amish dinner. The food was terrific and the company was great. I hope we do it again soon. I said they could serve us bread and water as long as they were cooking, serving and cleaning up. Love to all. Denise

I had very happy moments last night. I went to see "Footloose" at one of our local community theaters. Most of the cast, the director and the music director were friends from shows I have been in. I had so many wonderful hugs! I glowed all evening! The show was very well done and i had a great time. ;D
Who's next? There must be more happy mments out there.

I love hearing a good joke and makes me happy if this is not a place for it please delete it I have no problem but I thought this was a good one.
I was driving down the interstate in a rural area when a
chicken passed me doing 65 mph. I sped up and passed the
chicken. A few minutes later, the same bird passed me again;
this time he was doing 75 mph. Startled, I floored the
accelerator, got my car up to 85, and blew by the bird, for
good I thought. But sure enough, five minutes later he went
by me again. This time he passed me at 95 mph and made a
right turn off the freeway onto a farm next to the
interstate.
I immediately exited and drove up to the farmhouse and
knocked on the door. When the farmer opened the door, I told
the farmer of my experience with his speedy poultry and he
told me, "Oh, that must be one of my three-legged chickens!"
I asked, "How did you end up with three-legged chickens?"
He responded, "I have nine children. They all love
drumsticks, so I bred three-legged chickens to keep my kids
satisfied."
It sounded logical to me, so I curiously asked, "How do they
taste?"
The farmer answered, "Don't know -- can't catch 'em!"
