I love Little Women! It's my second favorite book. (my first is To Kill a Mocking Bird) I read it every year. I always thought it was sad when Beth died, but since losing Isaiah, I relate on a deeper level.

Brenda, I cry every time I read it for that reason. Have you read Little Men? It is also very good. I like both equally, and that is saying a lot because Little Women is one of my very, very favorites.

To Kill a Mockingbird is my all time fave! The one thing I miss about teaching high school versus middle school, is reading that novel and watching the movie with my 10th graders. I'm reading Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry with my 8th graders, which is excellent, but it's just not Harper Lee.

I love that one too! I was going to tell her to read it too! But, no it's not the same:) She's actually younger, but her teacher gave it to her, so she will have to read it again in High School. I figure she will get more out of it when she reads it again.

Jane Eyre is also one of my favorite books. I wish I read as much as I did as a child, I was such a bookworm.

Most middle school teachers require regular book reports, and my kids often tell me they're doing the high school reading list at their parents' recommendation. I think it's terrific that they will have that background and deeper appreciation. One of my favorite kids, D, was with me for 7th grade and again for 8th grade this year. Last year, he was a bit, ummmm, immature, shall we say? This year, he tells me about the books he's been reading (King Lear, 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Death of a Salesman). He has an awesome Mom who told me he started to love reading in my class. That's one of the coolest things I've been told in my 10 years on the job.

We don't stop her from reading:) I have read to all 3 since they were tiny babies. I hope that this, along with knowing how much i love to read helps to encourage their reading. My husband is not a big reader at all. The kids and i go to the library and i get books, the girls get books and Austin and i pick out books and play:) She tests at a high school level for comprehension so i know she can do it. Her teachers don't do a lot of book reports but do require a lot of reading. She loves to write and knows the reading helps with that also. And you know there are many books that you read at different times in your life and get different things from them. Hopefully, she gets something from it now, and when she reads it later gets something more from it. She knows it's my favorite so that gives her more reason to read and pay attention:)

Yes, I've read Little Men. I've only read that once. I should read it again. I love Jane Eyre too! I just love the fact she does the right thing and still gets the guy in the end. I've never heard of Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry. What is that about? I also like Cry the Beloved Country, but it has a fair amount of sad parts. I finished the book I was reading yesterday. Now I am reading Dark Summer by Iris Johansen. I can't put it down! It's 378 pages and I'm on page 363. Thankfully it didn't have too much love stuff in it.

Sam, I LOVED the Twilight saga. I kept avoiding it, but once I started, I couldn't stop until I got through all 4 books. The movies have been well done, too!

Darcy, I love David Sedaris and hooted reading Me Talk Pretty. Another good read by him is something with Corduroy in the title. He's hilarious. I'm reading one of my DS#1's books (it's for kids) called Found. I'm also reading "Committed" by the author of "Eat, Pray, Love." I cannot wait to see the movie! I'm also reading, "Guns, Germs and Steel," very slowly b/c it is boring but I need to know this information. LOL.
