If we want to be ad-free it is going to cost around $42 per month at first . This is based on only the first 5 days of page views of almost 500,000. I can imagine this would go up as we grow.
If 50 people donated $7 each that would give us 2.5 million page free views.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we should go about this? Clara would like some feedback on this issue and asked me to make this poll.
Thanks ;D

I don't think it's so much the ads themselve but that SG never had ads before. I want to make SG as much like it was before as possible.

Well.. I find them annoying. Some "ads" have banner sites and pop ups linked to them that can/have contained unharmful (or seemingly) virus'.
I personally would love to see sg ad free.
Just my thoughts.

I don't care a lick about the ads. I haven't gotten any pop ups so my blocker must be doing it's job. All I notice are the ads at the top of the page, but as soon as I scroll down a bit, it's out of my view.

Myra, Thanks a million for setting up this poll for me. I haven't even had time to check out how to make a poll yet. I'm inbetween meetings right now and am just now getting an opportunity to look over the boards. Right now, for some reason, I am NOT seeing any ads. I'm assuming that my pop-up/ad blocker is also working, although when SG first went online at this new location, I was seeing the ads and they were quite irritating to me. I still have 14 credits that I can apply towards our "ad-free pages", but I'm going to wait until some more of you give me input in this poll. I can apply them in the month of December, if I want. So...............everyone, please give me your input. Thanks so much! Love, Clara

I don't really notice them per se. I just liked the old place. I guess change is hard to deal with. I also liked the ability to have an email send whenever someone replied to a post. And, don't take this the wrong way, but this site is busier with photos, signatures, etc.

I finally noticed some ads... Not sure whether I wasn't seeing them before because we had enough ad-free credits or what... Generally they don't bother me one way or another, however, I can see where certain ads could be very hurtful to some of us here: for instance, this morning, one of the ads is for 4D u/s... unfortunately it's popping up at the top of the MTOM board. (It would be quite appropriate on the PAM board, but not the loss boards...) I will gladly pay some $$ so that others who may be in a deeper state of grief won't have to be further hurt by inappropriate ads. Just my 2 cents... (and 7 bucks ) In Him, Laura

Oh yes! Now I see the importance of staying ad-free. I went to the MTOM board, and like you said LauraBeth, there were baby-related ads. I think baby invites, baby shower gift ideas, like that.
I'll be supporting ad-free now that I understand!! (Sometimes it takes me a while ... LOL)

Eek! That is not good at all.
Just a question.... if we are paying that much a month for ad free, wouldn't we be paying as much as it would cost to get an entirely new server or whatever it is that Joe needs, to make his own message board again, where we'd never have to worry abou ad free?? Just curious.

Good question, Carrie. I am also wondering how long each $7 gets us ad free based on our current usage. Is it about a day? More, less?

I bet if we asked for donations for a new server, we'd be surprised at how many people would donate 10, 20, or even 100 dollars!
