I think Clara said the a new server would be around $4000 up front plus upkeep fees.

A point of clarification for the $7 credits... If I buy $7 worth of credits, does Clara then opt when to apply them, or do they get applied as soon as I buy them to the month in which I buy them? Note the section below about "roll-overs..." If its the latter, I'd hate to "use or lose" credits at the end of each month.... The following is cut/n/pasted from the FAQ in the Ad-Free section: What if I get more than 50,000 pageviews a month? If your board receives more than 50,000 pageviews a month, you can apply another 7 credits to your account to increase your ad-free pageviews by an additional 50,000 for the month of your choosing.
Does my ad-free roll-over to the next month? It is important to note that this is not a roll-over service. Unused ad-free pageviews from one month do not roll-over to the next month. For example, if a forum activated the ad-free service for the month of December on December 15th, the forum will stop being ad-free at the end of December 31st.

I don't really mind the ads....on the hard days (which I haven't had any in a couple days), I can see them being difficult. Especially because of the recent ones, for a 3D ultrasound. I think the ones about other miscarriage sites or cruises or trips were ok...but these ultrasound and new baby ones kinda bother me.

Dear SG Family, I haven't had the opportunity to read through much of the message boards today, but I did read through this particular thread because I've been concerned about your input about the ads. We had a total of 28 credits ($28) donated to SG for this month, and I just applied 7 more credits towards "ad-free". We now have 7 credits left to be applied as needed. In answer to your questions about having our own server, the cost is about $4,000 per year give or take a couple hundred dollars. The downside--we would have to have programming done, and if Joe was the one to do that, he told me to expect a down time of at least 3 months. Plus, we would need someone to "maintain" the technical functions of the boards. Many of you realize that proboards has been down twice already just since we have been hosted here. When the boards are very busy like this, we are prone to come across glitches, and it's important to have someone on call 24/7 (as this site now does) to take care of those problems. Bottom line--for now, Joe and I feel like this is the most fiscally sound place to be. I am still interested in applying for some grant money to help us with the site. If anyone can point me in the direction of any possibilities for grant money, I am very interested. The most ideal situation would be to have our own special place with our own "personality" built into the site (as we had before). Realistically, it's going to take a lot of money to do that because we have grown so much. Growth is a wonderful thing. May God bless us to have the wisdom to know how to best meet the needs of our growing community. Love, Clara PS I continue to appreciate input from everyone.

I was just wandering over here to voice my sadness at seeing ads for infant gas relief medicine and other infant related products at the top of the stillbirth board...and I see it's being addressed. I just hope it gets taken care of quickly...please.
Thanks.

I have a question about "pages viewed" is it the same as where it says on each post the # of times it was read?
If so, my problem with the way this works is this, when I read a post it may say "read 10 times" now I post a reply and it brings me back to that post and will now say "read 11 times" even though I did not actually read it twice myself. So now it will tell everyone there is a NEW posting and others will read again.... see how this multiplies the "pages viewed" just seems a bit unfair to us if we are now trying to buy these credits. I can see how they get used up so quickly.
Does this make sense to anyone?

Jen the ads aren't there right now. We are paid up on ad-free for a couple more days.

Clara
$4,000 per year is really easy if we all pitched in and donated what we felt we could afford, afterall that is only $1 per person per year for the server.
Some folks have paid more than $14 to have the boards be add free.
I know for one I would gladly donate toward having a server all our own again
