Today I found my favorite chicken dead. Her name was Half and Half she was half brown and half white so the name was. I have had her for about 2 years I don't know how long egg layers are to live but I raised her from a chic. The day before I noticed her comb had fell over I thought this was because she was getting old and the normal prcess, then yesterday I saw it was pink no it is to be red I flipped her comb over and next to her hed the comb was white I looked in her mouth and all was white. I worm my chickens in the spring, they don't free range they have to many dogs around and I don't clip their wings I feel it is not necessary in case they get out of the pen they can fly if they think about it. Anyhow I did a necropsy WARNING GRAPHIC: in doing this she looked at first to have a aneurism she was all purplr but once I open her up it looked like Peritonitis there was a infection so the smell was fowl (no pun meant) it was a ghastly smell but chikeny to. She had a blockage and was not able to pass her stuff through. POOP that is chicken don't pee like you or dogs or cats or other animals do. but it was very large ans smelled so bad. I now think it was Egg Peritonitis I had a bantam that had this, there is not much you can do unles you know what it is before hand and have a vet that knows about chickens which I don't have the luxery and I have to be on chicken message baords hoping I can get a answer the people are nice all but time is short at times so I can only hope I catch thing early. I had a rooster that was sneezing and had water from his beak so I was able to get him wel. I am very sad of this death she was the most tame and friendly one I had. Death is never far way seems like in the past this year I have had a couple of animals die.
