It's been over four years (and two babies!) since my last miscarriage, but even now I can't help but wonder what "might have been". My youngest DD is now 6 months old, but with hormones still swinging, I have been questioning what happened during my last miscarriage specifically more and more. Please don't feel that I'm being ungrateful since I've had two rainbow babies... I am so blessed, and I an in NO way "looking a gift horse in the mouth" so to speak. So I hope you don't mind me asking this question here.
My last miscarriage was at 8 weeks, 2 days. I had previously suffered a m/c two months prior, and had some of the same symptoms, so I kinda had an inkling it was coming... though the doctor missed it just days before. Anyway, here's my question, and I'm asking in hope that some of you ladies might have some medical knowledge about this for me. (Warning, TMI alert!!!) The night I actually miscarried, I was very careful to make sure I examined every clot, etc that I passed to find the baby. At one point I passed a fairy large clot, and rinsed it off in the sink. It was a perfectly formed little placenta, including a perfect little miniature umbilical cord. Only the cord ended in... nothing. It wasn't attached to a baby, and I did not pass a baby. Is this a blighted ovum? When no baby forms? I had thought a blighted ovum was when nothing formed, not even the placenta, etc. I asked my OB at the time, and she shrugged and gave me a "it could have been". answer. I never went back to her. Has anyone experienced something similar? If it's not a blighted ovum, what else could it be? Is there a missing baby syndrome of some sort? I am positive that I did not pass the baby.
Thanks for any input you may have!
