I had a miscarrige in nov. I found out in Jan that I have hypothyroidism. I still waiting for my levels to become normal before getting pregnant again. I read alot of scary stuff of about having hypothyroidism and getting pregnant. Has anyone had any successful pregnants with having hypothyroidism?

Hi, Jessica,
So very sorry to hear of your loss. You are right to be concerned re: thyroid issues, not just in regard to becoming pregnant -but also in terms of staying that way. The good news is that thyroid issues are highly treatable once you know about them! I hope your doctor is working with you closely on this. MANY people are able to successfully carry to term with treatment and monitoring.

I was put on a maintenance level of thyroxin just in case with my last pregnancy and had a healthy little boy, James. This was as a result of me having a miscarriage then them finding thyroid antibodies in my blood even though my thryroid function test was normal, which they called hypothyroidism. The OBG wanted to take me of it at 3 months pg but on testing found my thryoid function test to be normal, when the thyroxin should have been having an effect. Some weeks after having james, test showed the thryoxin was now effecting my thyroid negatively so i was taken off it. It seems that the thyroid problem I have which normally wouldn't be a problem is a problem when i am pregnant. I'll never know if taking the thyroxin did the trick, but it is recommended during pregnancy to avoid mc. The study that linked thyroid antibodies to mc is fairly new, my GP knew nothing about it.

I have hypothyroidism. It is easily treated. Make sure that once pregnant, your doctors check your levels regularly through the pregnancy. My endocrinologist checked mine every 6 weeks and even tweaked my meds once during pregnancy because your hormones can affect your thyroid levels.

I am in the same boat.... 2 yrs ago my OB tested for thyroid, never told me they came back bad.... lost baby at 20wks changed doctors and again lost baby at 20wks........ again I was told test was normal..... last August I lost 3rd baby at 12 wks; but 3wks prior my general doctor ran the bloodwork and found my levels were very low and started meds asap..... guess it was too late to save baby..... Levels are normal now, and TTC again.... working with RE but no success yet. I'm tired of meds and fear disappointment.... I too wonder if anyone has been successful once on thyroid meds. Best of Luck and Baby Dust your way
