Hi Guys,
I really need your help. Cayleigh is experiencing what I believe to be, night terrors. From what Im reading she has the signs. Then speaking with Kevin, I come to find that he also had night terrors as a child. So Im not sure if its hereditary. From what I read on baby center it says let them cry it out for 15-20 mins. There is no way Im letting my baby cry like that. Does anyone have an suggestions or experience with this? Please I need help.

My youngest has night terrors and I've had several friends whose children have them too. In my opinion cry it out isn't the same thing here, because anyone who has experienced them knows that they are so heart wrenching and walking away and letting them cry isn't something anyone would be able to do without being cruel to yourself or the child. I think of cry it out because you can not really soothe them, they are inconsolable, some times they don't know you are there despite the fact that you are holding them, and all you can do is sit and hold them while they cry and tell them you are there over and over until they wake up and realize you are there keeping them safe from whatever it was that was terrorizing them in the night. So I guess, I hope they mean that there is no real intervention to stop it in the middle. I'll tell you though it is awful. You truly feel helpless.
That being said, my ped gave me some advice form my dd and it did seem to work. He told me at night when I put her to bed to let her fall asleep and sleep for 20 minutes then wake her up and read a story or something then let her go back to bed. He said for some reason it resets the pattern and keeps the night terrors from happening. I don't know if it was a fluke or not, but we did it for a few days and she really hasn't had a real bad one since.

OMG, thank you. I will definitely try it. Anything is worth a try at this point. I love my baby girl and hate to see her go through this. Right now when she cries I pick her up and walk with her and tell her its ok and that Im there. I keep telling her its ok mommys got you. Thank you so much again! I will start trying this tonight Hopefully it works.

Tis the season for night terrors. John had his first one last night. Ugh. Last night it started after he had woken up and then gone back to sleep. Go figure.
