I was in two weeks ago yesterday for my u/s, when we found out we lost the baby. Opted to go natural, OB wanted to see me back in 2 weeks. Wanted to do follow up u/s after the m/c and labs to follow HCG down to 0.
I understand all that. I know she wants to make sure there is nothing left behind and that it is a complete m/c.
Problem is, we have no insurance to cover all that and DH has been out of work for 6 months, so don't really have the funds either.
My thoughts are:
1. I m/c last Friday. I know I passed an intact sac w/ baby, and then a very large piece that was the placenta. Passed another piece of tissue that may have been remaining placenta 2 days later.
2. It seems to me that if the bleeding tapers off and slows and then stops (I'm down to brownish spotting now), then that would indicate there is no retained placenta as retained placenta causes continued bleeding since the uterus can't heal at the site. So it seems to me, at this point, as long as the spotting stops in a couple of days, there is no need for an u/s to make sure everything has cleared.
3. The HCG that remains in my system will keep the corpus luteum functioning and producing progesterone. If the HCG drops to 0, the corpus luteum will stop functioning, and the progesterone levels will drop. If I temp, then I can see this drop and know that it has occurred. Could take an HPT to verify. But it would seem if my BBT goes to pre-ov baseline, then HCG is gone. As of this morning, my HCG is back to baseline. So it doesn't seem like the labs are necessary to make sure it's all out of my system. Obviously I'll continue to temp to be sure it stays down.
4. I assume risk of infection due to retained whatever is probably past at this point due to the bleeding being almost gone and knowing what I have passed. Temping every day will keep an eye on things to be on the safe side.
Does that make sense, sound reasonable and rational? Is there anything I'm not seeing or forgetting?
