Hey guys Long time no see. I think I keep up with a few of you on facebook my latest obsession. Glad to see this board is still here. John is 7 years old now. We just had our four year autism anniversary in March. He is doing great in school and is now a reader. We decided to hold him back in kindergarten another year and this year is going really well. I guess learning this stuff a second time really helped it all sink in. We really hope to keep John on the regular diploma track so we figured he'd better get master kindergarten as it is the basis for his entire school life. Rebekah is about to turn 10. She has ADHD. After many trials of different meds we found one that seems to help. Her school work went from c's to A/B honor roll. She seems to have trouble sleeping though. She is a great big sister to John and they get along so well together. Elizabeth turned 15 She is in high school and taking drivers ed!! She has a boyfriend and she keeps me on my toes. She is on the A honor roll and a great help to me. I will have to try and come back and post more later. I need some sleep. Myra

Hi, Myra!
Even though I see you on FB occasionally, and I've seen you in person recently, it's GREAT to see you here on SG!!! I love keeping up with your news......cannot believe the kids are all growing up so fast!
That's wonderful news about John -- reading readiness is so crucial! I think you made the most wise decision ever to keep him in kindergarten for one more year.
I'm so glad you've found a good medication for Rebekah! That is such a blessing, I'm sure!
And, as far as Elizabeth.........WOW!!!! I remember her when she was just a little squirt!!!! And, now she'll be driving you and Howard all around town! LOL
Stop by more often, Myra! It's wonderful to catch up!
Love, Clara

Hi, I think of you often. I don't have too much time for social networking. Life is so busy. I forgot that our 3 are similar in age. Jesse turns 7 this week, Zach is 12 and Anneliese is 16 - not driving yet...and I'm happy that way for now.
Myra how did you know he was reading. Jesse knows hundreds of words and can spell things like umbrella...but because he can't speak it is hard to actually find out what he is comprehending???

John is very verbal and loves to read. I did not realize he was reading till I visited his classroom and his teacher told him to read me a book. Last year he learned mostly from memorization. This year he is actually getting the idea of phonics.
I went to a conference recently that had some great resources for non verbal readers. I will try and find the information for you.

Myra, you have so many wonderful updates!!!! It gives me hope. I am especially warmed to hear about Rebekah and John. What med is Rebekah using? I totally believe children on the spectrum can get a diploma and become very successful adults. My BIL has aspergers and lives independently/works. My son, Kyle, has ADHD and is like your Rebekah, on the honor roll. Such smarties they are! Mari
