Please pray for my dad who is has two addictions (alcohol and pills). He has been in and out of rehab for three years and recently got out after 14 days in. Its the same ole speech from him as usual, but he still needs prayer. I want him to be there for me and my dd, and my brothers as we have been there for him.

Has he tried (or would he be willing to try) Teen Challenge? It is a wonderful program with a high success rate. Don't let the name fool you (if you haven't heard of it), it is for adults. I have personally seen people delivered through this program. Here's a link to their website: teenchallengeusa.com/Praying

Thanks ladies for your prayers! Dawn, I looked up Teen Challenge and it is a challenge alright. I always thought it was for teens, like it says. We have a campus for men like 20 min. away. Although I support it all the way, I highly doubt he would say yes to it becuz of the time commitment (at least one year) and having to live there. I will definitely try though and will need more prayers!! Pray for his willingness to challenge himself, commitment, and financially.

Trish, I am assuming that your dad is in the program (AA). I'm not sure if you've ever checked out any Al-Anon programs, but it is a 12 step program for the families of alcoholics/addicts. I was in Ala-Teen when I was young, because my mom is a recovering alcoholic.
It was really good for me to be able to share my ups and downs with other people regarding my mom's instability. Also, using the steps really worked for me. Admitting that I am powerless is very difficult for me, and I go back to it all the time. Learning how NOT to enable my mother amongst other things was very helpful. It is a really great program.
Prayers for your dad, Trish, and for your family as well as you deal with his addictions.

Thanks Darcy! I've been to counseling with and without him at rehab a few times, as has my mom. I was told I was an enabler both with my dad's addiction and my parents marriage. I did get a lot of info and got to talk to some of the people there in rehab. They do the 12-step program, but to him its a joke. He goes in to de-tox and wants to leave early becuz he knows what to do already as he has been in and out for over three years, as well as in rehab twenty years ago before I even knew him (he's my step-dad but I call him dad). Its the same ole story and the same ole apologies and the same ole dad. He goes to AA when he wants. He was supposed to go last night but he was coming to my house first-he never showed or called. I told him its up to him to get better, there is nothing I can do but pray for him. I can want it all I want, but he has to want it to get better. I still love him but I cannot and will not be his enabler anymore. He knows that and so does his counselor. I'm glad you understand but sorry you had to go through it as a teen.
