Thanks Rachel for letting us know about this little miracle. I've been checking in daily for ages now, and keeping him and his family/medical staff in my prayers.
He's now up to 5 lbs!!! Way to go, Bennett!!

Bennett is now over 6 lbs, and was moved to a new hospital. They are awaiting test results and hoping for answers regarding his hernia/lung surgeries.

And, the adoption of Bennett's brother "Little Man" was finalized!!!
Now all they need is for Bennett to come home... fingers crossed (and prayers said, natch) that his stay at Children's is short and productive, and he's home - if not before the new year, then certainly soon in the new year.

Bennett is scheduled for surgery next week to have a G-tube placed and to have an inguinal hernia fixed. He should be able to come home after that. Cross your fingers! It's been a long road for him and he's a very strong little boy!

Adrienne posted today (1/5) that Bennett is scheduled for surgery tomorrow - Thursday, 1/6 Bennett will have surgery tomorrow morning. He will be having a Nissen and G-tube done with the possibility of one hernia repair depending on how he is doing after the Nissen and G-tube. The plan is to extubate him as soon as possible after his operation. Because of Bennett's chronic lung disease and previous difficulties getting off the ventilator, it is scary to think of him intubated again, but his surgeon and NICU team feel he is ready, big enough and strong enough.
After Bennett recovers from this surgery, the team will try to wean his oxygen. If he is able to wean enough to go home, that may be the next step. If he isn't able or his surgeon feels it isn't safe for him to go home with the mass still in his lung, he will stay in the NICU and have surgery to remove the lung mass and repair the other hernia in a few weeks. That is a whole other level of scary to us. My prayers continue for Bennett, his medical staff, and his family...

I just came over here to post this, thanks Laura.
Bennett is still in the OR, but the surgeries are complete. They are trying to get him off of the ventilator.

Looks like Bennett may be very close to going home!!!! From Adrienne: Tuesday, January 11, 2011 I can hardly believe it I am rocking Bennett as I type this post on my phone with tears in my eyes. I had a 1 lb 4 oz baby boy July 3, 2010 at 10:47 pm, and at almost 8 lbs and nearly 200 days later, we are finally going to get to take him home, hopefully Monday or Tuesday!! He is really ours to keep forever and ever! My heart is so full of joy and gratitude it could burst. It's really happening, friends!!!!

Bennett may be going home THIS coming Monday! Friday, January 14, 2011 We were just told to bring Bennett's carseat to the NICU!!!! Bennett is going to sit in his carseat for the first time tomorrow! He has to pass a test where he proves he can breathe well by keeping his 02 sats up on the monitor for a 30 minute "drive" in his hospital room. If he passes his carseat test, then...... on Monday......he will get to take a 30 minute ride in his carseat HOME!!!!
