A's medicine for adhd is no longer working...seriously..cant tell whether i've given it to him or not.....so off to the developmental ped. we go...sat there all day and talked to 4 diff people...no meds. but they want to put him in O.T. and aquatic therapy over the summer supposedly it helps with adhd and autism. I'm not knocking it...well maybe i am.. i just dont see how its going to help. not to mention A hates water...HATES it. ugh. i know the doc has to do his homework on the meds because he had a dystonic reaction to concerta so stimulants of the ritalin nature are definately out but seriously...a is driving me crazy...i hate it it sounds horrible to say and i know he cant help it....i wanted to yell at the dr the other day and tell him i cant take A screaming in my ear anymore because hes excited and doesnt realize how loud he's being...i'm tired of hearing myself say his name 23349542067458 times a day to get him out of things...and most of all i hate myself because i know he cant help it but i still get frustrated with him. hopefully the ot and aquatic therapy help, otherwise i'll be completely crazy and deaf by the end of the summer...everythings better in the morning, right??

You should tell them. Really. Even if it's a matter of the dr needing to do some homework on the meds he needs to know it is a PRIORITY and to do it sooner rather than later! How is the FAMILY UNIT supposed to have a productive enjoyable summer if everyone is on edge?!?! I would think it would be useful during aquatic therapy ESPECIALLY if He's afraid of the water!!!! Don't feel bad...i told you how b is breathing due to this pneumonia is driving me insane and you know come on the boy is just BREATHING for heaven's sake!! :-( It doesn't make us bad Moms...it just make us Moms who have to deal with alot and sometimes those little things...intentional or not...just hit a nerve! I hope something good starts happenin for A soon....and that tomorrow IS brighter!! XOXOXO Much love and peace, e!

As my grandmother once said, "You are preaching to the converted!" I so hear you on the medication issue and the lacksidasical response the doctor's give to a need for changing meds. It's been nearly 2 mos. since the psychiatrist we saw has said anything to us about Kyle's meds, and I feel like "kicking him to the curb" and starting over w/a new doctor. I am sorry you have to deal w/this. An unmedicated child is an unhappy family in my personal experience. The doctors know psychologically but not experientially how their "nuances" impact all of us. Kyle has a tick, too, and it drove the family and his teacher nuts. Fortunately, it's becoming less obvious. I'm not a medication expert so I don't know if Vyvanse is in the same family, but I use it for Kyle when the Concerta became ineffective. I worry that he soon won't have any meds he can take b/c they'll all be in effective for him. Hang in there and ITA w/Babs that a call back should kickstart him to getting a solution now!

I agree with Babs, too, that the doctor needs to know how difficult this is for you. I know I always have a hard time saying exactly what I need to say because my son is right there and I don't want him to hear. Maybe an appointment without your son, or a phone call, or a letter, just some form of communication to let the doctor get a better idea of the impact on you and your whole family.
I hope the OT and aquatics do end up helping.
And...there is no shame in the frustration you are feeling. It is completely understandable. I think it would be stranger if you weren't frustrated.
Sending love...

Definitely let the dr. know, but the developmental ped may have other answers for you.
For now see if your son will drink coffee for you, try some b vitamins or even hylands calms. All really do work for kids with Autism and adhd.
We couldn't make it if mine wasn't on lithium and mega b vitamins, the day her dr. suggested b vitamins I was like uh sure that's not going to work. WOW am I happy to have been wrong. Its been 4 years now, no add meds and she is doing Awesome.
Thankfully she also loves coffee and boy does that calm in a heartbeat.
Big hugs I know its not easy. By the way your daughter is adorable.

I was just going to suggest coffee!!! I took a child psychology course in college and when we were talking about ADHD, coffee was suggested to possibly even work better than medS!

I am a huge believer in essential oils. A spray of lavendar works wonders for Jesse when he is in this kind of mode.
