. . . my DH and I did a lot of talking and soul searching. We did talk about the pros and cons especially since we are 45 and 47 years old. We went back and forth on the idea for about a month and then it took another month before we could actually sign our intent to adopt. However, we have found support in each other.
First, I had to have a talk with my son who is 27 years old from a previous marriage. He was ready from the beginning. However, I did suggest to my DS to take some time and I did talk with him about how this decision would affect him. After a few days, I spoke with my DS again. Of course, he was still for the adoption. Maybe he already considered her a part of the family b/c we had been fostering her for over a year.
Next, we had a meeting with our parents and my DH's siblings (I am an only child). I had to see everyone's facial expressions when we spoke of adoption. I myself feel that the eye's are the gateway to the soul. Our family's reaction has been so positive from the first moment we mention adoption. Just the other day, my MIL stated, "that's Steve's pride and joy" while watching my DH and our daughter playing in the yard. This just reassures me that she is and will be accepted as family once the adoption is final.
To me, our immediate family's acceptance was the most important of all. It's so ironic that she is so close with her Bubby and Nana. I hope this will help anyone who may be considering adoption.

Your story is heart warming! I'm glad everyone around you supported your decision of adopting her!
