Ok so I had severe PPD after my youngest was born and had to be on meds for a year would that affect weather I could adopt? I have been off the meds for over 2 years now.

I know each state is different but in KY this would not affect adoption. I have been on meds for depression. Here there is a required physical exam and one of the questions for the doctor is something like "is there any reason why this person could not be a foster parent or perform the duties of a foster parent." Actually I have worked for two different private child care agencies that work in conjunction with the state placing foster kids and providing services to the foster child and foster parents.

They'll want to know if you ever physically harmed anyone else especially a child when you had PPD? The state/social worker wants to make sure a child will be completely safe in your home. That's also why they ask so many questions about your marriage. If they predict you'd get a divorce up to 5-10 years after you adopt, they'll deny you.
In high school, one of my friends was murdered and another killed himself. I was so destraught, I lost it and tried to kill myself too. I was hospitalized for depression for a time. I thought that might affect whether or not we could adopt. But b/c it was over 15 years ago and nothing's happened since and b/c I didn't harm anyone but myself, it was passed over.
Remember to ALWAYS be forthcoming and honest with the social worker. They'll trust you more and you'll look better to the state all the way around.

This should not matter at all. I have a history of depression, but am treated for it, and was open and honest about it during our home studies and our adoption process. We had no trouble what so ever! Best wishes to you on your journey!
