Hi everyone,
So I joined this thread because I want to share what I'm going through with people that know more about it, by experience. My fiance had a vasectomy 10 years ago, suggested by his ex wife after they had their 2 kids. They were in their 20's and it beats me to even imagine why that had to be an option in their lives, instead of just regular contraception. And of course, he had no sperm frozen before the procedure.
Now, 11 years later, we are struggling on the options that we have to have our own baby. IVF, at the price tag of $10,000+ is not even an option for us. So what we are planning to do is for him to have a MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration) in February, and for me to have a IUI in March with his sperm.
Now I read around the net that sperm taken from MESA is "not enough" for an IUI. Well I thought it wasn't about the quantity, but the quality of the sperm? It's about the viability and motility of one sperm only, right? And the information I found on how it's not going to work because of the low amount of sperm all came from fertility centers that offer IVFs... um hum. And from the study below, the success rate of MESA+IUI is practically the same with sperm wash+IUI/Donor sperm+IUI/normal conception: 14% to 20%. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11881860 So why aren't more doctors suggesting it???
So my baby has started taking a combination of Folic Acid (5mg/day)+Zinc Oxide (100mg/day)+1tab/day of Maxi-Hair vitamins, to triple his sperm count, viability and motility before the MESA procedure.
Studies around the world have proven that those two together (Folate+Zinc), with a diet low on alcohol, smoke and coffee will increase a man's low sperm count and motility up to 75%. Proper nutrition and exercise should also be considered.
I'm going to be put on fertility drugs in January, even thought my cycle is a real clock work; just to be on the safe side. We are also thinking of having 2 IUIs procedures, 2 days apart during my ovulation period. We are going to do that in 3 tries, before moving to Donor Sperm+IUI if unsuccessful.
So there ladies. Let me know if any of you have tried this, and the results you got. Let's start the journey!!!
