I read on webmd.com that after 11 weeks of pregnancy there is no need for a vaginal u/s. Which got me to thinking that neat lil' swirly chart that the nurse or Dr use to figure out your due date how far off is that from the internets due date caculator?
Accoding to the nurse I'm 10 wks today and my u/s is set for Tues. 11/8/05 thats cutting it kind of close to the 11th week cut off. And when I enter my info on the internet about my last period there is a 2 day difference of dates.
I'm positive about when I was ovulating. And if I look at a calander I'm only 8wks along (counting weeks) because I KNOW the day I conceived....
Anyone care to explain this to someone who can never remember to ask these questions while at an appt? .

HHHMMM I don't know about the 11 week cut off. I don't think that it means that a vaginal u/s won't work it just means that you can do one on top of your belly by that point. My sil had her first u/s at 12 weeks and they just did it on her belly. I would probably just go with what the Dr does though.
As far as the the little wheel and the computer things. My dr's office has several wheels that say several different things. I don't really understand how that works. But they've always given me the due date tha matches with what the internet tells me. The only site that has been wrong is Babyzone, for some reason they always say that I'm a day ahead of where I am... So I go with the date that goes on the sites on the internet.

At my 12 week appointment they were NOT planning on doing an u/s -- BUT, doc said I have a tilted uterus and couldn't find a h/b with doppler because of it -- and SO I DID end up with an u/s -- transvaginal.
I asked them about this and they said they would be able to SEE everything then needed to by doing on on top of the belly -- BUT that to be able to HEAR the h/b then they needed to do the trans. vag.
Okay by me -- I got some pretty good pictures from it, PLUS I got to hear baby's h/b!!!!!! Not sure if it was ONLY because of my tilted uterus, or just because that they would not have been able to hear h/b doing it on top of my belly.

I got my first ultrasound at 9 weeks and they did it on top of my belly, not a vaginal. We could see everything just fine. But before hand they did tell me to have a FULL bladder, which I did! I asked the tech why they were not going to do a vaginal ultrasound and she said they really dont need to after 8 weeks.

I had an u/s at 9wks and they weren't positive about something so they ended up doing a transvaginal. The pictures were soooooo much better! I am not really sure what the cut off is for doing a transvaginal u/s, sorry I can't be more help there.
When you count how far along you are, are you going back to the date of your last period or the day you ovulate? When your dr figures it out it is from the day of your last period, so that would account for the two week difference.
Hope this helps!
