It was worse than what we had first thought. Her right eye is worse, but she also has the "lazy eye" on the left.
He dilated her eyes. Which was horrible. The first eye drops in weren't as bad, she didn't know what was coming. To get the drops in the other eye, I had to hold down her arms, and DH held her feet so she couldn't kick.
She'll be getting glasses. They should be in within a week. The dr is hoping that the glasses will help start drawing her eyes straight again. She goes back in 6 weeks for follow up. He did say that if this therapy does not work for her, he'll have to try surgery.
I don't know it's just too scarey to think about how she would handle surgery.
We had to buy a band for her glasses to keep them on. Dr said we have to make her wear them from the time she gets up, to the time she goes to bed. But because of her age, and her development delays, it could prove to be challenging to make her keep them on her nose. So the band should help some, but its going to be a rough few weeks until she's used to them.
Having a child like this, just is so exhausting at times. I spend nights awake, worrying about her. Sounds crazy I know, but it just bothers me.
Then I had soccer sign up for Olivia and Becca last night. There's a family that attends my church that has a little boy named Blake. Blake is wheelchair bound. His mind is all there. Becca is so friendly with him, etc, etc. Good buds those two. Well, Blake's mom is a kindergarden teacher at the school where Sophia will be going to headstart in the fall. So I had a gazillion questions for her. We talked quite a while. She was there to sign her older boys up for soccer. Anyhow, back to where I was at. I was asking her about the headstart program, yada, yada, yada. And guess what? The bus that will be picking her up in the morning has all ages from PK-5th grade!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm stressing over this. They keep all the PK kids in the front, and I should feel safe. But how can I?? I'm upset over that.
When she comes home from Headstart, she'll be bussed. But it will only be with other PK's and half day kindergarden. I'm okay with that. Doesn't it sound just horrible having to send my child on a bus with all those older kids??? I don't know if it is set in stone, or if there is some way I can request her to ride the special ed bus both ways.
Someone here might know.
Sorry this had turned into such a long ramble.
