SO...Jesse's school is NOT working out...I want him out. They let him cry for 35 minutes the other day because they changed the lunchtime routine...to not include a plate and have him eat out of the plastic bags that I put his lunch in (cubed ham and sliced apples or grapes)......all because they want him to do some OT and learn how to open bags....what the....... These people are so sickening. SO......what are my options for homeschool? Will his other services go away? UGH...

Wow. Way to go OT folks. Sheesh - all that's gonna do is give him a phobia about bags :/ I'm sorry, I forget exactly where you live, but anywhere in North America, you can call HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense: www.hslda.org/Default.asp?bhcp=1 ) and tell them you're considering home education and what can they tell you. Odds are, if they don't know, they will be able to direct you to someone who does. This is the link to their page about homeschool with challenges: www.hslda.org/strugglinglearner/. I honestly don't know. I don't have any services at home right now, but am really just learning - you know, what to ask for! lol and I'm in Ontario, so the set up is maybe different. Ask away, though, and I'll help you find any connections I can - also a good shoulder here {{{HUGS}}} Cynthia

As far as services from the school system, you'd have to talk to them specifically. In mine, they will provide services in a regular preschool or home for preschoolers (as enrollment in school is not required until first grade) After that, the school system will provide outpatient speech at the child's home school only. No OT or PT.
Is this the first incident? I understand your being upset, but if you have been otherwise happy, I would hope that you would talk to the school about your concerns and try to fix things. Withholding a meal from a child is just wrong. Is this a skill that Jesse has (opening bags) and they were just trying to encourage him to use it?

Monica
With your full time work schedule and dh home with Jessie would homeschool be the best for him?
I am asking as a friend and I wish I lived closer I'd go to that school and teach them a few things.
I am thinking he is in kindergarten now if you can try to work through this issue and get him through the year and into a good 1st grade class I think that might be your best bet.
I would if he was my son look into a private catholic school or a homeschool co-op or similiar type of school.
If you go to the 100% homeschool route they could cut all his services he gets at school but you also can have him attend part-time school to fit his needs better.
Also look and see if you have a connections academy in your state they do all the lesson plans for you, and its all online starts in Kindergarten and there is great reviews on the school.
If I can be of any help at all please email me toyboxjunkie@aol.com.
I am absolutely appalled they let him cry for 35 mins. what a way to set the child back.
