From those that understand this. I had my meeting with the teacher for Sophia. They will be transitioning her from the birth to three program, to headstart two days a week. And an hour each week with an early childhood special ed teacher. To continue working on her speech and her social/emotional skills which are almost non existant. In order for her to start headstart in the middle of Sept, she needs to be potty trained. She's doing great with "doing her job", but will not tinkle in the potty. WHY? Isn't tinkling supposed to be easier??? I've never had this much trouble before. She knows the sign for potty, but she tells me after the fact. And great ideas from those that have been through this with a needy child? Lisa

It could be so many things, but for my DS, he simply doesn't get the message that his bladder is full. I'm learning a new way to train using a schedule instead of 'need', as in: NOT- "Do you need to go pee?" BUT - "It's time to go pee"
In time his nervous system may mature and he will know when it's time, but for now it's a schedule + pull-ups when we go out. (He's 7 with Asperger's) HTH! Cynthia

Thank you Cynthia!!!
I'm going to give that a try over this weekend. With time and patience, I'm hoping to have her accomplish this.
I wonder what would happen though, if we can't train her in that time. I wonder how it will all play out with her needs.

Its actually against Federal law to demand that she be potty-trained due to the fact she has disabilities.
Head start is typically used for low-income children but can accept students on an IEP.
You can go back to your district and win placement in the district run preschool at 5 days per week with her 2 hours of speech.
At 3 years old she should have full time preschool for speech and social skills.

Thanks for the tip about 5 day a week preschool. I'm going to check that out soon. I didn't even know that.
She just said that headstart is headstart, but they reserve a few spots for "their" kids. And that Sophia would get one of those spots. That there would be no cost to me, and she would still get her one on one help. She also stated that she does have to be trained before she could go.
You are the best!! You know so many of these things, and I feel like I'm doing it blindly.
I am going to check that out. It sounds like it would be better for her. When she goes to the nursery at church, she sits in a ball in the corner and covers her ears. She can't take the noise. She won't play with others her age. She only plays with her siblings. She needs to develop her social/emotional skills or I just fear kindergarden will tear her apart.
Stressful things to look forward to.
Thanks again, Lisa
