This is my story...
I never thought I would have difficulties...I had an easy time conceiving and carrying my DS who is now 5yo.
After a year of trying we got a BFP. I didn't worry. At 18 weeks my midwife could not find a heartbeat. It was a Thursday evening. I had an u/s on Friday and was told my baby had died. I was initially scheduled for a D&C on Tuesday. It was a hard weekend...could not believe I was still carrying...but it was good to have that time because friends provided me with info about funerals, cremation, etc.
On Monday I phoned the OB who was to do the D&C and started questioning about what would happen to my baby. He had me come in and decided I was too far to do a D&C...did not want me to develop an IC, so the decision was made to induce. It was a long, slow process...in and out of the hospital. On Thursday night my DH went to see my DS at my parents house...and his Dad who was staying with them as he had come from out of town for a doctor's app't. A friend was supposed to come and stay with me...mixed communication with her DH so she never showed up. We were due back at the hospital at 9pm. I had some bad cramps, thought I would have a BM, but I had my first baby at home alone...ambulance called, taken to the hospital and had a D&C for retained placenta.
We named our son Daniel. He was born on Dec 3, 2003.; He was 1.6oz and 10cm long... and perfect. We have precious pictures. He was cremated.
Just a few days after Daniel's EDD I found out I was pg again. I worried...but had several u/s and at 19 weeks my midwife found the heartbeat. I had passed my 'danger' zone...or thought I had. Eight days later I went for a regular u/s at 20 weeks and he had died. We induced that day and he was born around 11:30 at night.
We named our son Jason. He was born on Aug 19, 2004. He was 4oz and a perfect little boy. How could this happen again. We brought a second urn home after the funeral.
I was referred to a perinatologist who is fabulous. He thought I might have APA but the testing was negative. He thought I had two flukes (both boys were healthy), but would monitor me carefully.
I got pg again quickly. Had what was believed to be an early m/c ...thought I was still pg and HCG levels showed that I was. An u/s on Dec 18 showed a perfect 7 week pregnancy. Three days later I started bleeding. I saw my peri who told me bedrest, and see him after the holidays...go in to the hospital if things got worse. I saw him Jan 4 and he did a quick u/s which showed something abnormal...he diagnosed me with a large prolapsed uterine fibroid...which had to come out...it would be touch and go whether our baby would survive.
I had surgery the following week...they did a cerclage after because I remained dilated. We thought I had made it... On March 1 I found some brown blood and spent the day in the hospital. The u/s determined that my amniotic sac was not properly formed. The OB doctor on call and the radiologist did not understand and explain the significance of the u/s findings. THat night I had PROM...and induction of a baby that was still alive began. There was no hope to carry her to a viable time. It was thought that bacteria introduced in the surgery led to an infection in the amniotic sac, hence it was weak and prematurely ruptured.
Our daughter Desiree was born on March 4, 2005. She weighed 6.6oz. She was perfect.
It is believed that our first two babies placentas formed on the fibroid (which went undetected in many u/s). This caused their deaths. All our babies were healthy. I had a hysteroscopy and myomectomy on May 2, 2005...got cleaned out.
To give some of you hope, I had a healthy baby boy born on March 30, 2006...after a very difficult emotionally stressful pregnancy, a cerclage, numerous u/s, etc. But he is here.
I miss my babies tremendously but am glad that I got to hold and kiss each one and have pictures of them. All three are at home with us.
Loves and kisses to all of our angels.
