Hi there! Thanks so much for asking! The appointment went really well, as far as her ears go! I was told prior to going, that they would definately be putting tubes in, which is why they wanted her seen. Her ENT said that because her ears look SO great, even though she is highly susceptible, he wants to wait! If she gets just one infection, then we will go ahead with the tubes, but he said that since her tubes have been out since atleast July (when we found out) that he would have expected her to have already been having infections, and she hasnt. So as of right now, no more tubes!
on the flip side, he also noticed her "breathy" speech, although he did comment on how great her vocab is. He told me that she will likely need another surgery, but also would recommend a year of speech, just in case. Her plastic surgeon did her first palate repair, but her ENT will do this surgery, if necessary, and I like him so much better. Its so nice to have a dr that listens to you, and asks what your feelings are on issues...like I actually have a say so.
Anyway, all in all, it went very well. IF she needs another palate surgery, it will not be until age 4, so for now, I am not worrying about it! I have decided that life is too precious to spend worrying about the "what ifs", because truly, what can I do about it right now, anyway???
You have no idea how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers, expecailly, when to some, tubes is really no big deal.
Blessings~ Wendy

YEAH! This is the post I've been praying for.
I know the raspy throaty sounds means another surgery, but with a year of speech maybe it will not be totally 100% necessary if you know what I mean.
I will continue to pray for Lily and the entire family. If you can get the speech covered by insurance please do it.
Also with her needing speech she can qualify for preschool services through the school district for free and with her cleft palate and other medical issues she can qualify for a 504 for school support and if she needs speech should would qualify for an IEP. It doesn't mean a special class, just good accomodations, speech and ot services etc.
I am not making light of cleft palate at all, my precious son should have had a cleft palate or more likely full cleft lip and palate and numereous physical signs of his disability, he did not and I will never know why. The hallmarks of his syndrome are cleft, if we had not had the amnio and known his disability before birth there would have never been a diagnosis as he had no signs.
