This morning during breakfast, Lily started screaming and choking. I ran over to see what was wrong and she had orange juice coming out of her nose. I am so upset. First of all, it scared her (and I am sure hurt), so much. She was choking, crying, I could hardly calm her down. She hasnt had ANYThing come out of her nose in almost two years, since her palate repair. This is one thing I knew was a possibility, but they say usually it will happen soon after surgery, if it is going to. I am not sure if they will want to see if it continues or not, but I am already able to see two fissures in her palate. At her last appt there was only a very tiny one. This was so much easier (in a different way, but still hard) when she was a baby, because she didnt express her fears the way that she is able to do now. Surgery at this age will be so much harder on her if she needs it, than it was then. PLease pray that this doesnt continue!!!! Blessings~ Wendy

Wendy- I'm so sorry that you and Lily have to go through this. I'm hoping it was just a one time thing. I realized while Avery was hospitalized how fortunate we were that she didn't know enough to be scared herself. As a mom, I was definately scared enough for the two of us. Is there a timeline of when a second palate repair would take place?

Oh Wendy, I am sorry, how scary for Lilly and you!
How large are the fisures? Do they get bigger or is it something they need to watch now?

Sorry, Wendy. This must be so frustrating for you, and especially scary for Lily. Do the fissures ever heal on their own, or is this something they need to repair? ((hugs))
Take care,

thanks ladies! So far, so good! No more scary incidents! I am hoping it was just a one time occurance! her fissures are teeny..they look like the tip of a needle, but still are there. I am not sure if they will repair these, or wait it out. As for a second actual surgery, as far as I know, they wont do it until she turns 4. Not that any time is a good time....
BUT..for now, she is doing better!!!
Blessings~ Wendy
