The hospital that they sent Avery to isn't in our insurance network. It really isn't a question you think to ask when they want to transport your child via medical helicopter. We will appeal, but as of right now they are socking us with some major co-pays. What makes me made is that the Toledo Hospital is covered, but the Toledo Children's Hospital (in the same building, mind you) isn't. Please pray the appeal goes through, which I hope will because it was the closest Children's PICU. However, we will have to find a new specialist, which stinks because I really like the guy we chose and he already works with our pediatricians with other children.

Ugh! Insurance can be such a pain! I hope they work things out in your favor.

I think most insurances make exceptions in emergency situations... which it sounds like yours was!

Our hospital does that too. The OB wing and the er are in the same building. The lab is in the er wing, so when I had an ob test done in the er wing they tried to charge me for an er visit and the copay when our ob care is covered 100%!
