Although I no longer have a special needs child living here with me, I wanted to introduce myself.
Tim was born 2 months premature due to full placenta abrupt ion. He suffered severe brain damage from lack of oxygen and then when he was 2, he went into a septic shock with a temp of 108. This was like adding insult to injury, what little he had, he lost. From that point on he never progressed
He could not walk, talk, see or swallow. He could laugh, OH could he laugh! ;D
Tim was hospitalized so many times that we lost count. Usually it was due to pneumonia. He had numerous surgeries for orthopedic reasons. His scoliosis became so severe (95 degree curve) that his ribs were literally crushing his lungs. Doctors felt he could not survive an operation. We knew this was the beginning of the end for him. At the age of 16, on 11/11/01, Tim left this world and escaped the body that confined him so here on earth.
My hope with this forum is that I can offer any advice and comfort to each of you. I really do know the frustrations that you feel each time you visit your child's doctor. I know how frustrating every day life can be. I know how much it hurts to see your child hurting. I know how difficult it is to see another child of the same age reaching all their milestones while your own child struggles to hold his head up.
Thank you Clara for starting this forum. I believe it will be very valuable.
