Dear Parents,
I had a sister with special needs, so I can relate to some of what you are going through when dealing with all of the aspects of a child that needs extra care. My sister developed chronic asthma which eventually took her life at the age of 13. My parents were constantly living in fear of another asthma attack, another hospitilzation, trying to find the best medical care, dealing with the finances, and working through tough relationship problems that developed in their marriage as a result of my sister being sick. Issues of faith and growing distant from God also developed. And, depression due to lost dreams became a big part of our family life.
I'm sure that you have lots to discuss, and lots of sound advice and support to give to one another. Please use this board often to do just that--lend support during your times of need.
Much love, Clara

Thank you, Clara! As you know, our Robbie was/is what the medical world calls a drug-affected infant/child. His "special" needs include speech/language delay as well as behavior issues, and we are now seeing the beginning signs of ADHD and/or learning disabilities related to the neurological after-affects of being prenatally exposed to cocaine, alcohol and other drugs .... as well as I am sure poor prenatal care. This forum will be an awesome blessing for those of us with special needs children. I look forward to sharing and learning about our other special needs SG children and families. Thank you!!

Clara, Thank you so much for opening this new forum. I think so many of us need this!
I am also sorry to hear of the loss of your sister. I was not aware of that, and until a very dear friend of mine had her child in the PICU due to asthma, I was very naive to just how vicious this disease can be.
Blessings~ Wendy

Thank you Clara for opening this forum! So sorry for the loss of your Sister. I lost a friend to Asthma as well. We used to do a 5 K jog in Ann Arbor for the American Lung Association. Well we would jog and then walk as both me and my brother have Asthma which has greatly improved as we got older. We are very lucky now to only use our inhalers from time to time but I remember as a child having breathing treatments throughout the day. I am off rambling when I just wanted to say thanks. Take care!

Thanks Clara! It really helps to have a special place to go with concerns about our "special" children and have other ppl understand what we are going through. I know with this new board I will be more inclined to post more about Matthew's condition/treatments.

Thank you Clara! How nice will it be to come and "talk" with others who know what I am going through. I get so sick of hearing, "oh you drug your child" or "I heard you put your kid on drugs". Or the best one, "Well, she is fine. You just need to discipline her more" UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes I love hearing that one too LOL
Clara thanks so much for this board, its means a ton to me.
Being a mum to a child with not only the severe medical/health issues the hidden disabilities are the worse.
It is so hard when she mouths off and another child says you know my mom would smack me if I talked like that or they scream that she didn't say sorry when she bumped into them etc.
This week has been a trying time trying to explain to someone how this perfectly normal looking child can't control her emotions due to the bipolar and the autism.
I got an email from Myra today telling me about the board and wanted to say big thanks.
