Hi Crystal,
I had 3 IUI's last year when I took Clomid. It feels just like you are getting a Pap. They insert the sperm into a tube directly into your uterus, which is supposed to bypass the whole CM problem. Assuming your DH's sperm count is OK, it increases your chances by a small percentage.
I hope it works for you!

angie, dh has a very good sperm count! we saw that last month when he looked at my CM on a dish. he said my CM was kind of thick but mucinex should thin it out. do they make you sit there for a while or do you get up afterwards? how much more of a chance do you think is increased by taking the IUI? is it worth it.

I laid there afterwards for 10 minutes with the bottom of the table tilted up. I think my RE said it increases your chances by 5%. I would do the IUI along with the Mucinex too.
Are you doing an hcg trigger shot too? You usually do the trigger and then get the IUI 36 hours later (no sex after the trigger until the IUI). You can also bd the night of the IUI.
HTH!

girl! your talking in a foreign language to me! lol...i dunno. i guess all this will be determined tomorrow when i go see RE. i might get a shot but why an HCG shot? what does that do? if it increases your chances by 5% then why is it so costly and recommended?

LOL! I forget you're a newbie at this stuff! ;D
Some RE's will give you an hcg shot to help release the egg out of the follicle. I would take Clomid CD3-7, then go on CD12 to get an ultrasound. He would look at the size of my follicles and then tell me to go ahead and do the shot. Then I would go in 36 hours later for the IUI. The IUI is more expensive because they have to "wash" the sperm before they insert it.

I have not had this yet but with the IVF I will have something similar. I did have a HSG and it is probably similar. It wasnt bad at all.
Good Luck, Nicole

I believe my RE said the chances of getting pregnant with an IUI is 10-20% (that was with injectibles). I'm not sure if the percentages are different with different types of drugs.
It is not painful. Chances of multiples are higher because it can not be controlled how many eggs will be released and fertilized.
Good luck!
