Hi... I'm new to the infertility board and I am so cunfused. Here's my story. My DH and I were suprised in May 06 with a BFP 3 weeks later at 8 weeks we found out it was ectopic and I needed emergency surgery, lost my left tube. We took 4 months off from ttc and decided in October 06 to TTC and in December 06 BFP. One week later HCG not doubling, chemical pregnancy. In Feb 07 another BFP and again at 6 weeks found out it's ectopic again. I finally went to an RE and they recommend not trying again naturally. The fact that I have had 2 ectopic pregnancies, one in each tube, is not a good sign and can be dangerous. I had the methotrexate shot on Tuesday and am now just waiting for this pregnancy to end . IVF seems to be my only hope rightnow. The RE is very positive that I am a great candidate and our chances are good. But i am very scared and unsure as it is very expensive. Can anyone who is going through IVF or did shed some light on the subject for me please?

I'm so sorry sweetie We have not been through IVF yet, but we are close (hopefully) As for cost, it is expensive. But it is about the price of a new car, maybe a little less. A lot, but not like new house expensive. Also, if you are under thirty five, you might qualify for a shared risk program in which you would get part of your money back if it did not work. The process is overwhelming to think about at first, but your clinic will hold your hand through the whole thing. If you want more details, I'll be glad to share. Just take it a bit at a time, beginning with letting yourselves heal physically and emotionally from your recent loss. ((HUGS))

I'm so sorry for your losses. We did IVF last year. It was a very tough decision to decide to go a head with it. We did an IUI before deciding to move to IVF. The IVF process is pretty involved. There were several ups and downs emotionally for me. It sounds like you could have very good success with IVF. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about the whole process. Good luck on whatever you decide.
Hugs!

Wow, I am sorry for your losses. I had one RE tell me they REMOVE the tubes of ALL IVF patients because it obviously reduces the chance for ectopic (they can attach in other places besides tubes by definition.). Tubes are then not needed and can actually be deleterious because they can dump bad stuff into the uterus and cause implantation not to happen in an IVF cycle.
We are currently in the IVF process after a natual conception and then a mis-dx by an idiot Kaiser Dr who really did a number on my ovarian reserve with months of hyperstimulation when the the issue is with my husband, not because I'm "old" as he called me.
I believe ARCfertility.com has a shared risk program if you're under either 35 or 37.
We have Aenta insurance now with a $3,500 lifetime max on both meds and IF coverage. We pay 10% until the $3,500 is met. Do you have any IVF benefit through your insurance or do you by chance live in a state where IF coverage is mandated?

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I hope you can find a way to make IVF an option for you. Sounds like the pp found a good place to start. Good luck to you.

Thank you for all of your help!! I am nervous and excited about all of this. My RE does feel this is the best option for us. I have no idea what to expect or how much it is going to hurt. My insurance offers a discount plan with my REs so it will be about $6000 a cycle, which is a better price than most of the risk plans that I have checked out. Pennsylvania doesn't require that insurance companies cover the procedure. Hmmmm but I feel like I should figure out a way to change that! Anyway, I am very hopeful and they said they would try to give me those twins I always wanted. I would be ecstatic with one. Here for the long haul, Nicole Oh ya ... we'd be looking to do this in August or September. Is anyone else doing it then?

Thank you for all of your responses! Looks like we will be doing our first cycle in August/September. I was OK until today. I went to the RE and found out that I do not carry the chicken pox antibody so she wants me to get vaccinated, which I don't want to. Anyone ever heard of this?

Yes absolutely get vaccinated! I had chicken pox in the first trimester with my middle ds. Dr's. told me if he made it, he would be born with major birth defect caused by chicken pox. i choose to have him anyway and I was lucky, he only has Aspergers ( related to autism). All Babies are now vaccinated for CP and I would tell anyone to do the same. If you get chicken pox as an adult it much worse than as a child. Good luck to you and I'm hoping you get those twins! Let us know in Sept. how it went!
