I lost my son, Mason Carl, on 10-29-05, due to major birth defects. It has been the most devastating loss for me.
I have gone through genetic counseling, a ton of blood tests, you name it, to determine whether my dh and I could try again. I tested positive for the MTHFR mutation.
We have been trying with the OPK for months now, and I just found out that I am unable to ovulate on my own! So, I am going to be put on Clomid!
Can anyone please tell me of your experience with similar problems and medications?
It is the most frustrating situation, to lose a baby, then have to suffer with infertility issues!
I would really appreciate your advice!
Thanks!

My sister has the MTHFR mutation. Did you test homozygous or heterozygous? Talk to your dr about Heparin when you get pg. That made all the difference for her! With the injections, she was able to carry to term 2 more babies. She had about 5 m/c before she knew what was going on. So she had a total of 7 m/c, and 4 children born healthy.
For now, make sure you take a folic acid supplement. I know that made a difference too.
I tested homozygous for the MTHFR, and was told to just make sure I was getting enough folic acid. That testing homozygous meant I didn't have the actual clotting issues. I'm on my 4th round of clomid. All I can say is, keep doing the opks to make sure it's working. You don't want to waste any cycles because it wasn't the right dose.
This board has been a little slow lately, but we're trying to get it going again.

I don't know anything about MTHFR...but I do know some about clomid. I take 50 mg. a day on cycle days 3-7. I got pg. with my daughter on that dosage. We're once again ttc and I todays my last day on it. I do pretty well with clomid. I do find that I cramp more and can be more irritable....but other than that okay.

Hi Kelly, I 'm so sorry about the loss of your sweet Mason Carl. I don't either know anything about MTHFR. Clomid I do. With first dd I got pregnant on 100mg clomid. With my sweet Mary, we conceived naturally, ironically enough.....Now, I'm pregnant again with the help of clomid, 50mg. After Mary was born and many tests later, we found out that I had a genetic clotting disorder called PT20210a gene mutation. I will be on a baby aspirin the rest of my life and when pregnant I take blood thinner injections daily as I do now. Best of luck with the clomid. I actually had no side effects except with my first dd, it did increase the # of cysts on my ovaries and one cyst ruptured, but otherwise I do just fine. Some women do complain of having wild mood swings. Luckily it's only 5 days. With Lydia I took it starting day 5. With this wee one, starting day 3. I have very long cycles so I had to do opks for much longer in a cycle than normal. I bought them off the internet at www.saveontests.com. They end up being very cheap esp if you have to use a lot, plus you get pregnancy tests with them. ~Tara

Kelly, It is VERY frustrating to have that babe that you want only to have to bury him or her!! Trust me..........been there! It seems so unfair! I am not familar with your condition but I am a CLOMID taker and let me tell you it's a roller coaster ride thru the amusement park called h*ll!! Atleast for me it was. I went on it for 2 months and thought that I was going to kill somebody! We stopped for other reasons and then last September we went back on it! I was moody as h*ll and very snappy with everyone around me!! I felt grumpy all the time!!! I did ovulate regularly on it but it wasn't me that had the problem.......it was my DH!! Finally we did some tests in December of 2005 without clomid and then in January 2006 we went back on clomid and then did a round of IUI and got pregnant! Found out on Valentines Day! And we are expecting a little boy in October-possibly earlier for medical reasons!! Good luck!! I personally hated taking clomid but I was desperate and wanted to get pregnant so my psychotic episodes didn't harm me.........just others around me so it was worth it!!!
