I remember when this board was "active" way back when, and I really got some good support. Then it sorta fizzled out.
So I'll start with a bit about me and my current treatment.
I have PCOS. I'm on metformin 1000mg a day, and Clomid 50mg cycle days 5-9. Also taking pre-natal and extra folic acid.
We've been ttc since May of '03, and we've had 3 m/c. I'm sure the m/c were due to the PCOS. Now that we know what some of the problem is, we can't seem to concieve this last year. I had an HSG last cycle, and found out that my tubes were blocked. We still didn't concieve that cycle, but we'll see what happens for this one.

I also have PCOS. I have a daughter who is 8 years old. She took us 5 years to conceive. During that time, I had an HSG and was on Clomid for more than a year. They could find nothing wrong and nothing worked. I gave up. Then I got pregnant with her. We began trying to have a child almost right away after having my daughter, knowing it may take a while. Another 6 years passed. I got pregnant again only to lose that baby at about 12 weeks. During a sonogram, I was found to have a blocked left tube. Shortly afterward, I was diagnosed with PCOS and was put on 2000 milligrams of metformin. 6 months later, I was pregnant again. I had ovulated on the same side that was once blocked. I now have a 2 year old son. When my son was just a few months old, my dh had a vasectomy even though I had begged him not to. I have always wanted 3 children. He's since realized his mistake and we have a vasectomy reversal scheduled for the end of August. My hope is that I won't struggle with infetility all over again after the reversal. I'm 37. I don't have a lot of time left. Heidi

After 13 years of infertility (I never conceived during that time), I was finally given a treatment for PCOS that worked for us. I take 2000 mg of metformin a day (as well as thyroid medicine for hypothyroidism). Unfortunately I had 2 m/c's before my sweet daughter. I've since had another m/c. I'm praying that we won't struggle with infertility. But I want to post and introduce myself here to encourage ladies that with God all things are possible! I was told I'd never have children.

Well, I was hoping to not have to join an infertility board, but it's starting to look like this might be where I belong more than TTC... I conceived my son, Jake, without any issues...that I know of, he was not planned so I was oblivious to what my body was doing. We started trying for #2 when Jake was 13 months old. We tried on our own for over 18 months (stupid, I know ) and finally sought help after my GYN suggested we do so. To make a long story short, not one doctor mentioned PCOS until we moved up to Madison, WI & I found Dr. Neidhardt, I LOVE HER!!! Anyway, she started me on Clomid & Metformin after our 5th year of tests and being diagnosed with "Unexplained Secondary Infertility"...my 3 least favorite words in the English language. I have had 3 HSG's, all normal and my dh has been tested several times as well, normal too. I am skipping around here...after starting the Clomid & Metformin combo in 2002 we had 4 IUI's, 4 cycles in a row and none of them were successful. After the 4th IUI my OB turned me over to a specialist. This doctor suggested that due to all of my scar tissue from several abdominal surgeries and the fact that I have PCOS, the only thing he could imagine working for us was IVF. After much thinking & praying, we decided that we should start looking into adoption and stop TTC. GUESS WHAT?!?! After 6 LONG years of tests, lots of tears & lots of prayers....we conceived on our own!!!! I almost lost Natalie, I had very low progesterone & had to receive shots for the first 14 weeks of my pg and then I was seen every 2 weeks after that due to early labor (21 weeks). She was born 6 weeks after Jake's 7th birthday & I wouldn't have it any other way, I just LOVE having them spread apart, it's kinda nice. We started trying for #3 in September of 2004, successfully conceived on our own in January of 2005 only to m/c in February, which is when I found SG. My body just hasn't been the same since my m/c & it's already been almost 18 months. How long is it going to take for things to be right again? Our health insurance doesn't cover Clomid or any other drug to treat infertility, nor will it cover IUI's (not that they worked the last time, but hey, you never know). So right now, the only way we are going to conceive is on our own & in God's time. You'd think after 6 years of TTC before that this would be no big deal, 18 months is nothing compared to 6 years...or even 13 years for Dawn, it's amazing!! Whew...sorry it got so long, tried to keep it short but it started getting therapeutic to just talk about it. I'm scared it's going to take another 6 years and I don't think I can go through all of that again, that's all... Thanks for "listening" girls and good luck to all of you!! Audra

Yeah, it does help to just "get things out". I've got "Secondary infertility" too, and it's been a frustrating long road with it.
I can't believe I'm already on my 4th round of clomid. I never even wanted to start taking it in the first place! Then I never thought my tubes would be blocked, and 2 cycles into clomid, they were! (Thanks to the HSG they were cleared out!)
Even though this is a difficult issue, I know we all could use this "specialized" support.
(((((hugs))))) to you all!

I'm not currently TTC, but I did post on this board a bit at one point. I got pg 2nd month of TTC and then miscarried at 6 weeks. Then we ttc for a year. Then I got my gyn to do some testing (SA, HSG, Endometrail Biopsy) all of which we passed just fine. I started going to a reproductive endocrinologist and they did CD3 blood work and also found nothing. Strangely they said we had "secondary" infertility as I had been pregnant before (m/c). Anyway the re seemed to feel that we would eventually get pg on our own, but suggested Clomid and IUI, so we agreed and it worked the first time!
I may be able to help with questions about testing or IUI.
Best wishes, Andrea

Well, here I am. Ready to join this happy little infertile home. I don't really know what is wrong with me except that I ovulate very strangely. I've had a m/c and a suspected m/c very recently. DH has poor sperm morphology so those big flat head suckers are not going where they are supposed to properly. I have had a laparoscopy, a couple of cysts, a few rounds of Clomid. No success. I am depressed and disgusted and I feel like my walls are crashing down. Thats the positive part. I hope that we can find some help with each other here. I am hoping to get in to see my doc soon and see what she tells me. I have an RE who suggested nothing but IVF for DH and I. I don't want to do it, but we'll see. DH has vericocele of his testes and his urologist wants to do a repair because this could be a reason we have such problems.
OMG! THis makes me so sad to talk about. I love you girls but I have to stop now!
Whos next?
Love, Jo

Have you been tested for PCOS, Jo? I can post a link to a self-test if you'd like. I'm so sorry you have so much to think about. This is all so hard. *sigh* Heidi

Jo, I agree with Heidi! With strange ovulation, a PCOS test should be in order. With PCOS, Clomid alone doesn't always work.

I went off the pill in June 2004, had a mc in July 2005 at 10 weeks and am currently on my fourth round of Clomid (CD 4 through 8 and currently on CD 6). Also have hypothyroidism (treated), so don't know if maybe that has something to do with it or not.
I don't post very often, but do a lot of reading.
I suppose this means that I have to actually accept the term "infertile."

Well, I am not currently ttc, but I always check this board anyway since I used to hang out here... so might as well post an intro! It took us about 6 months to get pg the first time, and I m/c'd that baby. We started ttc again a few months later... 1 1/2 years of charting later I was still not pg and finally went to the doctor about it... I was also diagnosed with "secondary infertility" (which ended any chance of ins paying for anything!), did some bloodwork and an hsg and he determined I had insulin resistance and he wasn't sure if I was o'ing so he put me on metformin. About 3 months later I ended up pg and ds was born on New Year's Day! I still can't express to anyone who hasn't been there how difficult it is to go through infertility... and I didn't even have to deal with drugs and procedures that much! It is a big step just to come to this board... I hope I can offer some support and information if anyone needs it! Melody

Post by Mommy of Lydia and Mary on Jun 22, 2006 20:30:55 GMT -5
Hi ladies! I'm Tara. I've never posted on this board, but want to tell my story and offer any support that I can. Here's my story. I was on the pill for ~9 years and decided to go off in 2000. I didn't have a period so finally went to my GP in early 2002. I tried to progesterone to jump start my cycles, but all that did was give me a period with no ovulation. By this time I was in that crazy 'I want to be pregnant and NOW' phase and everyone was pregnant around me...they were everywhere I turned. I couldn't look at pregnant women or newborns. I was then referred to a wonderful OB and the testing began. I can't even remember all the testing, but I do remember that getting blood drawn in the lab one day. They took me to the back room where the recliner was. I said 'wow, this is nice' and the lab tech looked at me and said 'well, we have 10 tubes to draw' and I'm a nurse and it still shocked me! Nothing showed up from the testing which was good, but still no answer. I had the HSG which showed a bicornuate uterus or heart shaped, but everything was open. At my first appt with my OB we discussed PCOS...PCO what! I'd never heard of it, but I fit most of the symptoms and then the u/s that showed my ovaries covered in cysts! So she immediately started me on progesterone to induce my cycle and then clomid. I did 2 rounds of clomid and then had a cyst rupture.....the worst pain I've ever experienced and we were on vacation!!! I took a clomid break for 2 months and then she advanced my clomid dose to 100mg and bingo! Lydia was born on her due date 9.5 months later I didn't have a period until 10 months after dd was born and that was my first natural period in over 13 years! We decided to try again when dd was 14 months, but my cycles were 60 days long and I just didn't know. Right when I was ready to call my OB, I decided to test and got a BFP, naturally!!! We were thrilled! Sadly, our sweet Mary was stillborn at 23 weeks. So, we started trying 3 months after Mary was born knowing that I wouldn't get pregnant right away. My cycles were getting longer and longer 40, 45, 50 days. I decided to chart and it was clear that I wasn't ovulating. My OB was confident that clomid would work again and sooner this time since at least I was having cycles. She was right. One clomid cycle and we were pregnant. So, here I am 31 weeks, scared beyond words, but so grateful to be here with this wee one. I still don't know how I got here. Sorry that got really long. Oh, and with dd we did clomid starting day 5 and with this wee one starting day 3. I'm so sorry that we are all here. I wish the best of luck to all of you and I hope I can lend some support and love. ~Tara

I am glad to see this board becoming active again. I feel like I've been twisting in the wind over on TTC. Here is my long story. I joined SG in April of 2003, after the devastating loss of our fourth child at 18.5 through m/c. No answers. We started ttc again in Sept of 2003. Although I do not get pg easily, it had only taken 6 months with our fourth, so did not think I would be there long. I was charting, so I was sure that would help. Later that fall, my dh started Androgel due to a hormone imbalance caused by an inflammed thryroid. In April of 2004 my dh had an s/a done. Zero count. Must be a mistake. Even the dr thought so. Later that month, a false +hpt. July 2004, still zero. August 2004, still zero. October 2004, finally got in to see specialist. It was most likely the Androgel, told to go off it and wait at least 6 months. June 2005, finally almost normal. November, 2005 started Clomid. April, 2006, still not pg after 4 clomid cycles. (March 2006, normal HSG.) First failed IUI, very short LP. May/June 2006, we decided to take a break of one month, only to find that the dr was going to be gone so not IUI till mid July. Which brings us to present, getting ready to O, still hoping after all these years that we will get lucky.
