Yesterday, I had to have a wisdom tooth cut out. My question is, for you that have had that done, how much pain is to be expected? I was given a prescription for Vicodin, but its not helping AT ALL! On top of that, I have to take Luke to his 1st grade evaluation this morning, and I feel awful. I am so tempted to ask my mil to leave work early to come and get the little ones. Am I being a baby??? Did you have a lot of pain? I have 7 stitches, as well, and cant eat anything. Been up all night. Dh told me I should be "fine" this morning, but I feel horrible!!!

Wendy, I am so sorry you are feeling poorly. I was in terrible agony for about four days afterwards. It turns out I had dry socket-the gauze loosened around my missing teeth and the nerves were exposed. I was very careful and did not know it happened. Please call your dentist asap and explain the situation. If the vicodin is not helping please tell them. I called my dumb dentist after 2 days of agony and they said, "Well, yeah, it's painful keep taking your Tylenol threes" When I went in for my follow up a day or two later they said I had dry socket and that is why it hurt so much. They numbed it with some gel and re-packed everything and I was feeling a lot better immediately. Try ice bags-take some ice cubes and rubbing alcohol and double bag it in freezer bags. The alcohol keeps the bag flexible (it won't freeze but will stay cold) so you can mold it to your face shape. It will help a lot with the swelling. I was a zombie for four days following my surgery. Please call them asap! Keep us posted.

Both my brother and BIL had them out last year, and they were not "fine' the next day. My brother couldn't go to school for 2 days and my BIL couldnt' go to work for 3. it just hurt them so bad. I don't think you re being a baby at all!!!

When I was in high school I had all 4 wisdom teeth surgically removed. They were still on the bone. It was painful, no doubt about it! I hope you get some relief soon!

I had all 4 of mine removed also in high school, surgically. But I didnt experience much pain....I was begging to go to cheerleading practice and my mom wouldnt let me!! LOL LOL
But yes it is painful, and I dont think you are being a baby at all!! If it hurts it hurts, not like you are making it up!! I sure hope you get some relief!!

Thanks girls! atleast I can feel "better" knowing I am not overreacting. I had THREE children naturally, for goodness sake! I wasnt expecting this much pain! Anyway, I called my mil and she is coming over after lunch to take the little ones to her house, so I can atleast get some rest. I am on my own this morning! I dont even feel like making breakfast for the kids, so I am being a "bad mommy" and picking up donuts and juice boxes on the way to Lukes school evaluation.

I had all four of mine cut out in high school . . . it was anything but comfy. I had a few rough days, then was pretty much back to normal, except for the bruises chimpmunk cheeks. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I've had all four removed. No fun! Heat compresses or ice packs may help some. Hope you feel better soon. (((hugs)))
