Obviously, the ads aren't random??

How do these ads work? Is the subject of the ad based on key words in the forum or post? Surely they are not random because we are getting baby-related ads in the loss forums and when I posted about food, I saw pumpkin pie-related ads.

It looks to me like they are they are related to key words in the forums somehow. I have no idea how they do that. I don't even notice the plain black and white ones but the colorful ones are noticeable.

on the chance of sounding stupid......are the ads "pop-up" ads??? I'm only asking because I have yet to see a single ad (bonus for me....I'm sure!)

So -- either something funky is going on, or I just have a really good pop-up blocker (I think I'm using the SBC one right now.......I might also have the Norton Internet Security one turned on...not sure on that one though).

Just wondering.....I was gettting confused.

They are not pop ups, they are in the script for the site.

Look at the top of your screen underneith the "Message Board" box.... I have one now about advertising....

The ads are gone again. It looks like Clara has applied the credits. I guess we need to come up with an organized way to fund this ad free thing. Anyone have any ideas. That means we have had 150,000 page views in 15 days. Ad-free is $7 per 50,000 page views. This site is sure getting busy.

Dear SG Family,

I feel like your wayward mom lately, and I apologize for that. I've been popping in reading posts as I can..........I've been involved in a lot of speaking lately, so I'm not always able to get onto the computer until very late at night.

I did just apply 7 more credits towards 50,000 more ad-free pages. The SG site is quite obviously way more busy than we thought..........I had stats with the former message boards, but the stats were not as detailed as the ones I'm getting now.

Thank you to whoever donated $$ towards keeping the site ad-free. I'll have a more detailed explanation in a few days about this.

For those who have NOT seen any ads, I'm going to assume it's because you have a strong ad-blocker on your computer. I can see ads on my computer at work, but I cannot see the ads on my home computer. I find the ads annoying, and sometimes very inappropriate for the grief boards.

There are 7 more credits left to apply towards ad-free pages at this point. I would ask that if seeing the ads is a problem for you, please donate $7, and I will continue to apply those credits towards keeping our site free of the ads.

*NOTE: If you have written me an email, please give me a few days to catch up on correspondence. I'm not ignoring you--just swamped at work trying to get a new budget completed following a 30% surprise reduction in funding!

Just as an FYI -- I've noticed that when I turn all the piccies and avatars off, I don't see any ads. And the pages are about half as long, which works much better for me.
