First of all I want to thank you for getting this website up and running. I really depend on the support.
FYI...thought I would direct you to PAM where there is a discussion about the Karma business. Thought you should know about it.
Thank you for all you do at SG Dominique

Dear Dominique,
Thanks so much! I know that the "karma" ranking has been a question of concern since the opening of the new message boards.
I am currently listening to all of the discussion about the karma option, and I will make a decision by the end of the weekend about this. I think that many have indicated they could use it as a fun thing, or as a good thing--a way to extend an extra boost of friendship and support, while others have indicated that there are possible problems with someone receiving a smite. A smite or lack of receipt of a karma would/could cause additional pain to someone already going through the pain of grieving.
It is my personal feeling that I would like to see this function disabled.
So............I would appreciate a bit more feedback before making the final decision.
Love, Clara

Clara .... I have been thinking about this for a day or so now. And, my thinking reminded me of a "discussion" my pastor "had" to have with me YEARS ago. (I think I was like 22 ... young anyway ...LOL) You see, I used to use sarcasm ALL the time. It was how I communicated. I expected everyone else in the world to "see" that I was just kidding and accept my backhanded compliments. Well, seems that not everyone was so excited about my communication techniques and I had hurt several people in the area of the church I was working in at the time. When it was pointed out to me, I was devastated and began praying for God to change my heart and help me change my behavior immediately.
I still am one to use sarcasm, but not ALL the time anymore. It does get me in trouble from time to time, but not like it did at that time. (Old habits hard to completely break.) Can you believe that I had to actually LEARN how to give a direct and positively-worded compliment??? Now, I try to give them out at least 10 times a day. (Who has time to count, but that is my goal!!)
Anyway, I see this Karma thing in the same light ... while most of us may be using it as a fun thing ... it has the potential to hurt others deeply. Personally, I don't think any amount of fun can justify the potential hurt.
Thank you for your leadership and for taking this matter under consideration.
Love,
Becca

Dear All,
When I have time later on today to give a more detailed explanation about "karma", I will do that.
As for now, I would like everyone to know that I have disabled the "karma" function as I feel it was not being used properly on these boards.
If anyone has anything they want to discuss further, you can email me at chinton@silentgrief.com. Thanks.
Love, Clara
