I signed up with my local elementary school to tutor a couple of first graders who are having trouble learning to read. One of them - a little boy who's name is Nic - appears to be having an especially difficult time. During our first meeting this week, he was easily discouraged and seemed to be very uncomfortable with a book that should have been just his speed. Which tells me that he may be at an even lower level than was indicated. So, would you please pray for him and for me? Pray that I'm given the wisdom and insight on how to best convey the information to him and pray that his mind and heart would be open to learning. I tutor every Wednesday morning and I pray right before each session, but I also request added prayer for this one little boy.
You see, I'm an avid reader and I just hate to think of a child cut off from the world of books because of reading difficulties. Not to mention how it will affect his learning ablilities in the future. Thanks ya'll. Gina

Gina- Just a little tip that we use at Sylvan when tutoring students. Give him some made up words. For example:
pab mef buj
Analyze where he is miscueing. Does he get the beginning sound? Ending sound? Vowel sound?
Use made up words because that way you can be assured it isn't a word that is simply memorized.
We teach consant sounds first, then short vowel, then blends (th, sh, ch, etc), then long vowels.
I'll be praying for this little guy! Let me know if you have any questions!

you might check if his school has fastforward or earobics for the computer great for helping any child with any reading, comprehension or language issue
he also may have an undiagnosed learning disability or auditory processing disorder
if he doesn't have an IEP you might encourage his parents to seek an evaluation it could do worlds for his self-esteem
