A few weeks ago, my Papa had his prostate checked, and his PSI levels came back high. They told him that this was indicitive of cancer, but he had his prostate checked and the doctor said it felt fine. Then, he had a needle biopsy last week, and got the results today...he does have prostate cancer.
This scares me so much...I thought our parents were supposed to be invincible. I also thought that miscarriage was genetic, but that's another post for another day.
He has another appointment next week, on the 17th, to find out what his options are. Please keep my family, and especially my Papa Robert in your prayers.

Oh honey I know how you feel! My daddy's psi came back high a few years ago and had a procedure done to check it . Fortunately it was a false alarm! Praying that this will be the same for your Papa

Mandee... You sound like me, a few months back. My dad also had his prostate checked in August... The numbers came back high, and it is indeed cancer. You and I both know the deal: caught early enough and treated aggressively, and the cure rate is near 100%. My dad, unfortunately, because of other medical issues (including a heart condition) is NOT a candidate for surgery. They have decided to treat him with lupron and check his numbers frequently over the next year. (Apparently the lupron is implanted and it lasts for a year... it just doses him as needed somehow... I'm a little fuzzy on the details!) I will keep your dad (and you and your family) in my prayers - especially tomorrow when he learns what treatment options are recommended. I pray for that 100% cure for your dad! [Hey, we can be "kids whose dads have prostate cancer" buddies.... ] (((HUGS))) In Him, Laura
