To all of you who read my recent post about anger, I am happy to say that I am still in a down swing BUT today I felt like the clouds had lifted a little - then again its looking like its going to rain outside Anyway. How many of you are out there that have received a Memory Box when leaving the hospital with your baby's things in it? I know I wasn't even expecting something like that and now it is one of the most treasured things I have. Inside of mine was a paper with a website and email address on it as well as the artist's name who painted the box I received. I finally emailed her and received the nicest response. they said that they don't always hear back from the actutal families who get these boxes. So, I am just mentioning this in hopes that if any of you have one of these "memory boxes" and have the paper with the info inside, take a minute and send an email to one of these wonderful ladies who volunteer their time to do something so nice for us. Thank You

Who is the artist? Would you share the email address or website if you don't mind? I work in a neonatal intensive care unit where we have these boxes but they do not look that great.

I would love to be able to do something like that for families! That's a great idea! Being an artist myself, and the mommy of angels, I can totally appreciate things like that! That's really cool! I never got anything like it, but I did get several things from the nurses in the NICU that worked on Jeremiah. They gave me a plaster ( I think) heart, with a smaller heart cut out of the middle. I buried the small heart with Jeremiah and kept the bigger one.

These boxes are sponsered by Black Hills Area Decorative Artists. When the woman responded to me she mentioned they were in North or South Dakota but I was living in Maryland so I guess their boxes get sent all over. If you want more info on these particular artists the website is www.bhada.org - You then have to click on the spot that says memory box community program - there is a picture of the ladies as well as an explanation of what they do, as of today they have painted and sent out over 3500 boxes all over the country and it is all by volunteer efforts and contributions. If you do a little site searching it shows how you can volunteer or be part of the program and give you ideas on how and what to paint on boxes and where to send them when you are finished. I think it is so incredible that these women give their time to help grieving parents like ourselves. Whoever is able to, please go to that website it will touch your heart.

These are beautiful. I could not find anywhere on the site where you could buy a box. My son was not an infant when he died, but I would love to have one to hold all the cards and letters I received after he died. Right now they are in a shoebox!

Hey again everybody. If you email them for more details they can tell you where to get the boxes. I think I have seen them in craftstores all over. They are just plain boxes that are all different shapes and sizes and are ready to be painted. The website can give you ideas of what the current artists paint on them. I wish I was artistic. I know a lot of you have talked about what to do for therapy or something to help us through this time. I think doing something for someone else is sometimes the best way to help ourselves. Anyway, check out a JoAnn Crafts or whatever you have locally, I'm sure they have these sort of Craft boxes that are ready to be painted. Hope that helps. The website is full of information also and they are very quick to email you back to answer any questions.

Yeah, Jo-Anns, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, they all have them, and there are stencils and decals, too. I used to do that.
