Quote: Finally, I recommend that women avoid stevia. It is a popular sweetener because it does not affect blood sugar and has basically no calories. However, it’s safety is still in question and the European Union medical advisors refuse to approve it for use there because it has been shown to reduce fertility in rats. It was originally used by natives in South America as a male contraceptive. That alone is enough to make me think twice.

OMG!! That was the one sweetener I thought we were safe to use! I know about the asparteme (sp?) one & that we need to stay away from that one, & all our Dr's want us off sugar for one reason or another . . . Nothing is safe anymore!

Stevia is a completely different sweetener than Splenda. Stevia is an herb where Splenda is derived from sugar. Stevia is not considered a drug and yet not considered food either so it hasn't been officially tested or approved by the FDA. I'm not sure where Splenda stands, but Splenda's actual chemical name is Sucralose. I've had to do a lot of research as I am highly allergic to aspertame (aka Nutrasweet).

OMG!!! That's sooo weird... Remember the post about the peas? I have been eating peas like crazy b/c veggies are healthy for ya. Now this!!! I drink ONLY diet drinks. Regular sodas make me shaky. So... I try to drink diet Coke with Splenda the most. I LOVE alllllll diet drinks and drink them quite regularly. Or Unsweetened decaffinated tea. I don't like juice or milk. What am I supposed to drink now?!!!!!!!!!!!

I just found this on another board and posted it. I'm not sure how truthful it actually is. I just wanted to post it b/c I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'm going to research it a bit more, later on, and I'll let you all know what I found out.
Good day and God speed.
Tons of sticky baby dust to all~

My OB said to avoid saccharin, which the general population should avoid anyway. She said aspartame was ok, better than pumping all the sugar into your body. And Splenda was fine too. I had gestational diabetes so I made sure to get the facts so I could still have my sodas and iced teas! Yum, had to have Diet Snapple Peach Tea when pg with Johnathan!! Missy

Oh Missy! I LOVE Diet Snapple Peach Tea. Before I started drinking Diet drinks I hated them. They were so gross. DSPT was what helped me cross over. No aftertaste and you couldn't even tell it was diet. Then when I finally crossed over I was so used to it I couldn't taste it in a diet soda. It's a wonderful drink!!!
