UPDATED-1st Specialist appt on Mon.Nov 7th..

Hi ladies,

Well I'm a little nervous and excited if that makes any sense. I have my first specialist appt on Monday morning and I'm just curious as to what you think I should expect.

This is C#14 and I'll probably have just o'd or just about to when I have my appt...

All that my regular doc checked for me was a blood test to check thyroid=fine and in July I had my Progesterone checked, it also was fine at 24.5.

I had an emerg c-section with my DS and I've read alot of stuff about possible scarring of the uterus and that scar tissue going and blocking the tubes on the net, my dr also made a point of writing that down on my referral (that I had a c-section first time around).....is this an HSG they'd do to look at this? When at your cycle do they normally perform this test?

What should I expect? Any questions you think I should ask when I'm there??

Hi ladies! I'm back! Here's the plan......I o'd yesterday, so they're going to run hormone levels on me next Monday Progesterone (to confirm O), prolactin and some other level.....

DH will have to do a SA, so we'll hopefully get that out of the way this weekend....I already feel bad for asking him...lol

If AF arrives this month, I'm to call the lab and schedule a CD7-10 HSG....this is an XRAY test where they shoot dye up into your uterus, to check for abnormalities and tube blockages....apparently if you only have minor blockages (dr said this is very common and referred to them as cobwebs--LOL) you're supposed to be very fertile that same cycle, so here's to hoping for a BFP before Xmas!!

If they find some major scarring in my uterus and/or tubes, they would schedule a LAP which is a surgical procedure attempting to remove scar tissue.

I'm feeling SO much better now knowing I have a plan in place! And my dr is SUCH a kind, understanding man.......

He even said, well, seeing as you o'd yesterday, hopefully this will be our first and LAST consultation....LOL

Oops sorry... Monica! I'm glad you're so excited! My visit was empowering as it made me feel that I was doing something to speed the process along! Unfortunately 3 days before my visit, I found out I was pregnant and already loosing him/her... I'd had a very heavy period 2 weeks before(so I never thought to test) but apparently was still pg due to the an hcg over 1000. Our visit focused on that instead of my plan of action to conceive. I'd think you might have an ultrasound to determine if you've already ovulated and from which side, or they might be able to see the follicle(s) about to rupture and measure it's size.

My follow up visit she discussed starting me on progesterone and aspirin(though no problems have been diagnosed), talked about taking antibiotics to make sure there was no infection in my system, retesting for auto immune(anticardio/and antiphospholipid I think) disorders once I'm pregnant, etc... Expect lots of labs for clotting factors and anything else that might prevent you from getting pg or cause you to lose a baby.

She did a hydrosonogram(cd10- but it had to be scheduled) to view my uterus and tubes- it's different from the hsg in that they using saline instead of dye. The dye gives a better view of the tubes, but I was conceiving(so that indicated no blockage) and not carrying to term. The hydro is more to see the uterus- check for polyps, cysts, look for abnormalities, etc... It was no big deal- very little discomfort and I got to watch the screen and see what she was seeing. I'm sure I'll think of more, but hope that gives you a start! Hugs, Susan

Monica, After our 2nd m/c we opted to see an RE (reproductive endocronologist). He did a medical history, an u/s of my ovaries, and then scheduled an HSG (AWFUL). . . anyway, just be open and share everything with this new doctor. good luck. . . hugs.

Hi, I am so exctied for you. Congrats on getting to the next level of intervention. I remeber how excited I was to go to my first RE appt. BUT what a let down when I got there. All we did was talk. I wanted to get things done, considering I drove 2.5 hours to get there. I knew deep down nothing would happen, but I was just so excited to be going for help. Sooooooo if you know that all you will do is talk about a plan then you will be all set.

The RE will go through your medical history, then set up an HSG (with a dye) and perhaps another type of HSG using water. The RE will also order more blood tests if your OB did not do it thouroughly. All of this is good (very uncomfortable) but good. Knowing that someone is trying to find answers for you is awesome.

I hope all goes well tomorrow and testing will immediately get on the way for you. As for when an HSG is done I can't really remember...oh maybe I can...I remeber I was on the last day of my period and my RE said it didn't matter that I was still bleeding. I think this test can be done at any time.

Glad your appointment went well and you have a plan in place! i hope that next time you see your dr (well, except for that progesterone test) it is to confirm a bfp too!
