While the boards were down ...
Elizabeth Ann Stare was born!
Oct. 9, 2005 at 7:59 a.m. (39 weeks gestation)
9 lb, 3 1/2 oz 21 inches long
You can see her at: www.growingfamily.com/webnursery/babypage_view.asp?URLID=9H0M5B5T3V
After a sprained ankle at 37 weeks and four trips to L&D for "labor," we learned I had a "subborn cervix." Basically, contractions were strong enough for birth, but the cervix refused to dilate. Then, on Oct. 8, we had another episode of strong contractions at about 10 p.m., timed very closely, and all in my back. When we got to L&D around midnight, I begged the nurse not to send me home ... induction, csection, anything. When she checked my cervix, it was dilated to FOUR CM!!
So, I was whisked to a L&D room and checked in while the resident did an u/s (checking for breech due to the back pain). Thankfully, she was not breech, just facing up. They ended up having to turn her during birth ... which would have been a big ouchie if not for my second epidural .. the best epidural ever given!! I felt NO pain during pushing. Ladies, I mean NO pain. We were laughing and joking the whole time.
Elizabeth was born after only an hour of pushing, at 7:59 a.m. on Sun, 10/9/05. She didn't cry much, but passed her tests with flying colors. She has tons of dark brown hair and those non-descript eyes that have yet to reveal their real color. They are starting to look dark to me, though.
Unfortunately, with no sense of pain threshhold due to the awesome second epidural, I overdid it during pushing and strained just about ever muscle from my ribs to my knees. I couldn't walk at all for 24 hours. I was so embarrassed because I had to go home with a walker. I was walking slowly without the walker within a few days though.
Today, 3 wks and 1 day after giving birth, I wore my JEANS for a little while this morning. They are my "fat" jeans, one size up from my "normal" size, but nonetheless they ARE jeans that I owned and wore pre-pg. They are still a bit tight, but give me another week!!
Elizabeth nurses like a champ and is quite the little traveller ... fitting beautifully into our busy family. She has been to church twice, to the Great Pumpkin Patch, to the mall, to Moms and Babies group, to the doctor's office, and many other places.
Our church is hosting a baby shower for us this Saturday. I spoke with Elizabeth about the shower, and her main concern is that she will wear the right color outfit. LOL
Looking forward to hearing from all of my SG sisters soon. Hugs,
Becca
