My first OB appointment is tomorrow. I just started spotting today, light brown. And I'm just barely crampy. I spotted in both of my previous pregnancies- once with bedrest when my dd was born, and then last year when I lost the blueberry (no bedrest.) Is there anything that can prevent a mc when a pregnancy is threatened? I had a very stressful and exhausting weekend and today the spotting started. This is the exact pattern that happened last time. I read that stress can lower progesterone levels, and low progesterone levels are a common cause of mc.
I'm trying not to assume a mc is happening but it's so hard. I barely have morning sickness...which happened last time.
My dh is leaving for a week long trip and my fear is that the mc will happen while he's gone.

No news is good news, right? The OB appointment was a huge disappointment only insofar as I thought it would involve an ultrasound and exam and all he did was talk to me! It took about 8 minutes. Evidently my insurance requires authorization for every particular, so today was a "first visit" based upon which he can request the authorization for ultrasound and everything else he can think of. The good news is he gave me lab slips for blood work so we'll know my HCG levels in a few days.
My next appointment is in two weeks and he says we'll do the preliminary ultrasound then. (Not the detailed kind...this just shows the sac and heartbeat, basically, so he can estimate baby's age.) He said based on the dates I'm probably 7 or 8 weeks along, but we have to wait to find out for sure.
I asked about the possibility of low progesterone and he said the labs will show if that is the case.
As for the spotting...it was barely there today. The OB just said, "Take it easy and no sexual activity." Hard to tell what he was really thinking, but then he doesn't have much information to go on yet. I'll just have to be patient!

so frusterating when they make you wait. I hope you get your blood work results quickly. Praying for a boring uneventful 9months for you.

Mingasue, I know how waiting and wondering can make a person feel a little insane, but I definitely agree that no news is good news. As long as the spotting stays brown, I'd assume it's old blood and not a problem. Are you having two hcg tests, two days apart to make sure your levels are doubling? When is your blood being drawn? Keeping everything crossed that these two weeks will not crawl too slowly and that you'll see a happy heartbeat at your ultrasound appt. Re: progesterone, ever since my first loss I've been given progesterone support -not based on test results but on a "can't hurt/might help" basis. (Insurance refused to cover it, but it wasn't terribly expensive.) I wonder (if the tests aren't soon and if you requested it) whether your doctor would be willing to do the same just for your peace of mind.

My blood work is once a week right now, and the spotting continues. Sometimes brown and sometimes pink. I tried to call my doctor twice this week and left messages, but missed both of his return calls! Now he is on vacation for a week... and I still haven't gotten the results from my first blood test.
Yesterday was a busy day and I noticed the spotting was redder, so I guess that's an indication to stay off my feet as much as possible. That's hard with a 2-year-old, severely overdue housework, and a husband who is gone for a week. I am so exhausted.

{{{{{{mingasue}}}}}} How are you?? Hope you've heard something about your labs! I agree with lauren&p&k&a&j's mom; progesterone might help you, usually it's taken once a day until you're 12 wks. Please keep us updated!
