Hi, I am new here. I lost my precious baby boy, Mason on 9-1-11. It was the worst day of my life. He went to Heaven due to a massive spontaneous fetal maternal hemorrhage. I was wondering if anyone else has had this horrid thing happen to them. I was almost 36 weeks along. He was perfect. I have since had 2 miscarriages. I have never miscarried before and wondering if anyone has any input. I have 3 beautiful girls here with us in addition to Mason in heaven.

I wonder if your m/c are related to your pregnancy some how. perhaps you need some medical testing, although of course if could just be bad luck.

dear Masonsmommy,
I too lost my little girl from massive fetal maternal hemorrhage. She was born at 39 weeks by c-section after not feeling any movement and her death confirmed by ultrasound. We were told that she lost about 190 ml of her blood and that it would have been very sudden. I had not suffered from any trauma and no other explanation could be given. It was the worst day of my life.
This occurred 18 months ago and we have not tried to conceive since due to our anxiety over the loss. I am not sure if I can add anything as to why you have miscarried but I wanted to let you know what has happened to me physically since her birth.
I am a very healthy person that has not suffered any miscarriages or fertility issues. We also have two healthy living children. since Isabel's birth I have suffered terrible hormone imbalance and dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I have had numerous blood tests check hormone levels which came out normal. My symptoms include extended heavy bleeding and severe cramps. Ultrasound showed a bulky uterus but other than that no explanation. I decided to have to progesterone implant to try and give my uterus a break. The bleeding has settled significant but is still longer than it used to be. I am not sure if this is linked to the FMH but it frightens me that it is and that I am at an increased risk of it happening again or postpartum haemorrhage. Maybe it's my body refusing to heal the cause of her death. I wish I knew so that I could fix it. Do you have a good specialist that could advise you on the pros and cons of taking progesterone supplement to try and hold the pregnancy? I would love to know how you are doing now, 2 months after your post. It is very rare to come across another mum that has lost to FMH. I was told that it was a 1 in 3500 occurance.

I lost my son recently (7-13-12) to fetal maternal hemorrhage. It was also spontaneous. My son, Jonathon, lost 155 mL of his blood. I have A- blood and he had A+ blood so I had to have 12 Rhogham (sp) shots. I was 36 weeks 5 days. I'm sorry about your losses masonsmommy & actinotus. I was told that the FMH happening with the amount of blood my son lost was a 1-5000 chance. (With less blood lost, I believe the odds/chances are higher. )Because of the number of shots I had to have, we won't be given the okay to even try to get pregnant for several months minimum since my blood will have to be tested for antibodies. I also wonder if any difficulties you experienced were from the FMH. (I have a 2 year old daughter and never had any problems so far.) I wish no mother would ever have to go through what we all went through and lose a child so close to their arrival!

I want to start off by saying I am so sorry for your losses. I also shared FMT with my daughter. She was born via emergency c-section at 37 weeks after her heart rate dipped to the low 60's while I was being monitored due to no fetal movement. The dr had her out in 45 min. She had to be revived twice in the OR and then again in the nursery. The hosp we delivered at could not figure out why her blood count was so incredibly low. They finally tested me and found a high number of fetal blood cells in my system. She was transported to the NICU of a sister hosp and got a blood transfusion. She had liver and kidney failure and a heart murmur as well. While my daughter survived I was told she would not have made it another few hours had I not come to the hospital. I had a miscarriage about 9 months before I got pregnant with her and no one could tell me why. I also now have horrid cramps and extreme heavy bleeding when I have my periods. It hadnt occured to me that FMT might be the cause. I am terrified to get pregnant again. None of the doctors can tell me if it will happen again. I have been researching like a crazy person but cant find much info at all.

10-11-2006. My Calvin was born via emergency C-section. I was 36 1/2 weeks along. Same type of story as everyone else here. No real answer as to why or how. The only comfort I got about the whole ordeal was the doctor said the likelihood of it happening again would be astronomical and nearly an impossibility.

Hello, I hope you get this message. Our baby was born via c-section 2 days ago and currently in the NICU due to FMH. At birth, doctors estimated that his blood volume was only 1/3 of normal. He is on a ventilator and has received blood transfusions, other fluids, etc. They've done brain ultrasound and monitored his brain waves. Doctors told us that the results show very minimal brain activity and that after 2 days of no signs of improvement our son is likely to have suffered severe brain damage and that if he survives will be significantly disabled, mentally and physically. We are now faced with having to make a very difficult decision. I would like to know if anyone out has gone through a similar ordeal. And if their baby survived, what are some of the problems and challenges. Thank you and please pray for our baby boy. I want to start off by saying I am so sorry for your losses. I’m sorry about what your going through. My son was the same. Today is his 12th heavenly birthday. Your son sounds identical to ours. We decided not to prolong what we knew needed to happen. He lived without any help for 26 hours on his own. The five days he was with us are the best five days of our lives. Just remember it is your and your wife’s decision alone. May God keep you and hold you all during this difficult time.
