Around June last year I was trying to get everything ready, trying to learn how to time my cycles and looking into possible fertility medications, when I was hit with a roadblock. I was discovered to have thyroid problems. I have hyperthyroid now, and in April began treatment for it, though it'll never actually "go away" but it might have explained a lot of my anxiety issues around this time last year.
Also, I do apologize for being away for so long. I'm not sure if anyone remembers struggles my family was going through with my nephew who had Menkes Disease last year, but he passed in April and it's been a bit of a rough battle, which is more of another reason why I've been hesitant in making the decision again.
Anyway, I've recently had the thoughts popping up into my head again - well, not so much thought, but decision. I DO want to do this, but I'm in a more difficult place than last time my planning was coming around. I'm on both Propranolol and Carbimazole for my thyroid and while I have looked up on some of the risks/thoughts on taking either/or whilst pregnant, I'm also aware that my thyroid problems can make conceiving difficult.
So I have a few concerns that I thought would be the best place to ask and yes, I promise that I will be around here a lot more often now that my life is a little more uh...predictable than it was last time. I'm a little more settled now apart from this situation.
Basically, I was wondering if anyone here was familiar with thyroid problems and what they can mean for TTC. The types of medications I'm on doesn't recommend fertility drugs, in fact it pretty much warns against them. I've tried speaking with my doctor but in kind explanation, he's a bit of a flake who treats me like an idiot most times and my concerns about my ability to get pregnant, he just shrugs off and unfortunately I'm unable to look for a new doctor in my area.
A further concern is well...levels. Is there a possibility that when the hormone/body changes kick in it can cause level changes of my thyroid, and/or blood pressure despite being on medications? Did you have to adjust your dosages in accordance to trimester or level fluctuations?
I do have the knowledge that I may have trouble with conceiving due to the fact of not only my thyroid, but my irregular cycles. In fact, when I was measuring them last year, that was honestly the only time they'd ever been regular since puberty, and that only lasted 3-4 months. However, I wonder that maybe my personal cycle in it's "normal" range would still be the same? Sadly, since about October...they've been irregular again even though the medication was supposedly going to fix those issues. I did ask my doctor about it, and he said even on medication, my cycles may still not be regular even with the medication. Will this be a further issue?
I know, so many complicated questions and I'm sorry, but...it seems to be the only place I know where I may get SOME insight since my doctor seems to think I shouldn't be concerned until I'm almost 40 or something. It's extremely irking.
