i hope that Caitlyn flips for you Sabrina! I thought about home birth Nikki, but DH shot that one down really fast... he's nervous enough as it is, and doesn't want to take any chances when it comes to having the professionals around to help. i understand, so i told him that if i have to be in the hospital, than i'm going to do this med free (as long as its healthy for us both) eta: at least that's the plan!

Oh I know, and I feel horrible for you (and others who have similiar complications) for all that you go through just to get the baby here. If I had any of those issues, my midwife would not see me and I'd have to go to the hospital. I'm willing to do it if I have to, but as long as I'm low risk and am capable of staying home thats what I'm doing. Besides, LOL can you imagine how crazy I'd be if I went to the hospital without an emergency to keep me focused? They'd put me in a straight jacket and knock my anxiety ridden butt out cold, LOL.

With my oldest, her heart stopped beating before I delivered her. I was all of the way dilated, but she wouldn't drop, and her heart just stopped. At first they thought it was the monitor, but it wasn't. She had no heartbeat. They reached in and wiggled her until it started again, and then basically reached up in with forceps and pulled her out. It still scares me to think how close we came to losing that little girl. I haven't had that type of problem again, but it pretty much excluded the idea of a home birth or even a simpler birthing center for my other pregnancies. I want all the equipment in case something happens again. Of course, with the heparin this time, no midwife would want me.

OMG DEBS!!! How scary is that? So glad to see you around and hope you are feeling better.
Yep, 2 CNM in my ob's office and they won't touch me with a 10 foot pole. They just page my ob if I call the office.

I can see why you wouldn't want to do it Deb, thats very scary to have to go through! My mother still thinks I do this to prove a point and to make her upset, she doesn't understand the whole panic attack thing. She actually told me to suck it up and go anyway so she'd feel better! I personally think its whatever makes you comfy, your the one in labor whatever you decide is your decision and you need support no matter if others agree or not.
Niki, Bo wasn't happy that I did it either but he said it was my decision. But his brother was royaly piffed at me and chewed me out for weeks and then when I wouldn't bow down and obey him he pretty much stopped talking to me. He lived with us at the time (his job takes him away from home months at a time) and he made sure he was out on a job around my EDD so he didn't have to witness me making the biggest mistake of my life, as he put it. When his wife got pregnant he told her under no circumstances was she going to do the stupid thing I did, haha. He views me as a bad example, cracks me up. Believe me I understand, when my friend did it the first time I thought she was nuts and tried to talk her out of it. I happened to be with her throughout her second pregnancy and delivery and thats what changed my mind. Now Bo is on board after witnessing it first hand.

You know that would be the best thing about bedrest, being waited on hand and foot. That is if you have someone there at all times to do that for you. Thats good you have someone to help!

i think that its all about the mom and baby, and that as long as you have someone there to make sure that things are going well, and a plan if they are not, then the location shouldn't be a thing! its all about comfort while you are in serious pain from contractions and labouring!
I can't believe that your bil would be such a baby about it!! lol!

You too! LOL it's even funnier if you knew him Niki! He's one of those rebel type people, he goes out of his way to be different just to annoy/upset people, and he's supportive of you doing things your way and not the 'normal' way. Its so out of the ordinary that he got so upset about that, and still is. He won't discuss it to this day!

As if your BIL should have a say in it anyway!
I have a SIL who was also adamant about homebirth. In her case though, I didn't think it was a great idea... she had a previous emergency c-section! Of course it turned out that the midwives wouldn't take her anyway, even at the birthing center that was next door to the hospital. Certified midwives have protocols they must follow for safety reasons, and as long as those are followed, I think it is nice that women have options.
