This morning, dd was complaining of itchy feet. Within about an hour, she started crying. When dh looked at them, he thought it was athlete's foot. So off I went for some cream. In the short time I was gone, her toes and feet had swollen alot and were turning blue, and her fingers and hands were swelling too! Just so you all know, for now she's doing better.
We aren't really sure if it's an allergic reaction, mysterious bug bites that happened to only be on her hands and feet, or....sickle cell anemia. The thought scares me, but it needs to be tested for. DD had a blood test at the urgent care, and we should have results by tomorrow. At this point, we're looking at this as a "ruling out". Scary stuff. She was tested as an infant, and we were told the test came back negative. The dr said the disease usually manifests itself before age 5 too, so we're hopeful that this isn't the issue. So we're to give her benedryl and prednisone for the next few days, and just keep a close eye on her. I'll be busy trying to find a primary care dr. too this week. We don't have one yet since we just moved here. I was hoping we could wait until we were settled into our own environment. That'll teach me for thinking that way.
So if you could keep us, esp. dd, in your prayers for a while, we'd really appreciate it.
Thanks.
**update:
The redness on dd's hands and feet has gone, but she is still saying it's hard to hold things. There is just a little swelling today. Nothing like yesterday though. We'll keep with the benedryl and prednisone until we hear otherwise. I'm thinking one of the two is actually doing something. Still haven't heard from the dr yet. I'll let you know when I do.
Thanks again.
