We use aquaphor for keegan's breakouts too. We were told by the ped to use it after EVERY bath. He doesn' thave the problems on his face anymore though, mostly just his thighs and but. He scratches himself until he is bleeding if I don't use it just once after a bath. I get it in the lotion department at walmart. I have a small container, not a tube. It doesn't clog up his pores at all, but it is thick, so I can see how it could do that on some people/babies. Winter is worse, thankfully it's getting warm. Also my sisters baby gets really really red cheeks. Our sitter/friend notices it gets worse when she is teething and tylenol and orajel help get rid of it. weird. But I know this has been an ongoing thing with her. I know you don't want to go to any other docs, but I would seriously take her to a dermatologist. They may take one look at her and KNOW what it is and stop all the suffering. Good luck.

Kameryn had really rough, bumpy, red cheeks and chin and I asked her pedi about it and said it was from her rubbing her face on her crib sheet (she is tummy sleeper) and rubbing on other peoples shirts. She gave me a prescription for some kind of cortisone cream and her face cleared up in one application. Maybe you could try some otc hydracortazone creams and see if that works.

We've tried OTC hydrocortizone but a friend of mine had her dr write her baby a script for one and it seemed to work. I think I'll try this aquaphor stuff and maybe a few other things and if they don't work I'll talk to her ped at her 6 month check-up. Thanks ladies!!!!

It is probably dermatitus......... Go to your ped and ask for some Elcon, it is an ointment, and it should clear it right up.

We use A&D ointment only. We have tried the excema creams, perfume and dye free washes, etc. We just started wipping down Em's and Anna's faces (they both have excema) with just a wet washclothes of water only, and spread alot of A&D on it. It has worked here. I hope you can find something that wrks soon. Poor baby. Laura

Jen, I too still think that this sounds like a case of eczema...and I agree that you need to take her to a dermatologist, especially since she is scratching at it and making it bleed. Babies don't know any better. And take it from me, this small case can explode all over her body in the matter of a day....that's what happened with us. Nicolina had a few patches on her face one day and the next she was absolutely covered. My ped diagnosed it as a viral rash...only to see her a few days later to say that it was eczema. The pediatricians don't really know what they need to know about this issue, as I found out...because I was told to use the Eucerin Aquaphor as well. Nicolina continued to get worse, it was affecting her sleep and I finally got an emergency appointment at the dermatologist. We were prescribed a corticosteroid foam called Verdeso (it is expensive and our insurance didn't cover it) and we saw instant results. She was also covered in Vaseline twice a day for a few weeks...and we only use a cleanser on her called CeraVe (it is sold with the items like Cetaphil) and also the CeraVe lotion (which I put on her in the day time and save the Vaseline for night). It was a lot of work..but her skin now looks great.
I googled baby eczema on the net and found a wealth of information, including what causes this condition. I made the decision to do what it takes to fix her because the condition can damage her skin, and Nicolina had a severe flare up. The dermatologist also told me that eczema improves in the summertime, which may be why her face was better while you were in Florida.
Good luck...feel free to PM me with any questions.
