PErhaps you ladies know the answer to this question. My DH wants to adopt my son. We cannot find his bio dad to serve him the paperwork. We've paid for some services to find him but the addresses are old. How do I find his current business or home address? Any tips you can share are appreciated. ****************************************************** My son's bio dad called us Friday night--out of the blue. DH and I emailed him multiple times and he didn't respond, so we'd basically given up on getting into contact w/him. I thought we'd have to figure out the next step, like advertising in the paper. He called and admitted he'd gotten our email. He also said the DA had put pressure on him; basically threatened him w/jail time b/c he is a year behind in paying child support and he needed to work out the concerns w/the DA before addressing the issues of adoption. I suspect he'll want out of the $40K+ he owes in back child support in exchange for terminating his parental rights.... All that is left is to serve him w/the paperwork terminating his parental rights and to have a courtdate. Please continue to pray this goes toward adoption.

Began this process with ds and my ex (only Dad Joe has ever known). An attorney told us that in the case of abandonment, courts allow you to demonstrate an effort to find the missing parent. I believe he told us we had to demonstrate that we looked for him for 6 months. Then my ex would be free to petition to adopt ds.
ps. this was in Pennsylvania, but I'm sure California has similar laws.

I'm no expert, but when my younger brothers' dad and my mom were still together, and they didn't know where my sister's dad was, the boys' dad wanted to adopt her. I remember them saying that if they publicly searched for him, including looking in the newspaper (an ad? I'm not sure) then it was possible for him to adopt her. I'll research it a bit more.

Eight years since I've seen him and he's seen Kyle. Six years since we've spoken and he made it very clear he wanted no contact.

Really hoping that everything works out. I think that after no contact for so long, and being unable to locate him even after hiring someone, a judge should allow the petition. I'd follow Candace's advice and continue to search, but after awhile there really isn't anything else that you can do.

We are coming to the close of our journey. On 7/11 at 11 am, my son's adoption order and the termination of parental rights is supposed to happen. His bio dad said he won't contest it. The judge said he was inclined to sign the order after reviewing the evidence but wanted a 60 day period for the bio dad to process it. Very soon we'll all have the same name and be one family. Thank you for your prayers.
