I won't bore you with details, but my dad died in 2006 and we didn't get to put his condo on the market untl 1/2009, bad idea, market tanked. We have been paying 2 mortgages and huge hoa fees for dad's condo. Looks like we have a buyer, offer made and accepted, but contingent on FHA loan. Also, since the condo is still in his name and estate, we need to set up an estate bank acct and that is causing problems right now. Please pray we can set up an account, so we can get some money from this (Less than we spent to keep it and upgrade it) and that the sale procees smoothly. This will take a huge strain off our life and marriage and give us $1,300 a month to save or use for our kids.

Kary... I feel your mortgage pain! (Short story version: We moved in April, and still haven't gotten the old house on the market yet, hence, two mortgages... ugh!) Prayers that everything go smoothly with this sale, and that you are soon able to put this chapter (dual mortgages) behind you.... (((HUGS)))

Bumping this up to piggyback onto Kary's request for a smooth home sale.
We finally put our house on the market this month (the day before my dad died), and we now have an offer: prayers that the home inspection for the buyer goes well, and that the sale proceeds without a hitch.
Then prayers that we are able to quickly sell my dad's house in Florida.
(Bottom line: I "have" three houses and the sooner I'm down to only one, the better!)

We did sell my dad's condo and all is well---now we are trying to sell our townhouse to get a bigger yard! Here we go again. Thank you for the prayers.

small update: We are scheduled to go to closing on Dec. 2... provided the buyers are happy with all the little ticky-tacky fixit stuff they are insisting we do. (They are first time home buyers who are buying an 80+ year old house and expecting it to be in the same condition as a brand new structure.... For instance, they are having us do some things that cost about 40 cents at Home Depot and would take a non-handy person about 5 minutes to install.) Prayers that this sale goes through without further hitches are appreciated! We finally got the appraisal back on my dad's house. Now I need to contact both neighbors who had expressed interest in buying it to see if they are still interested. If so, we can sell directly to one of them; if not, we need to go the realtor route and get it listed asap, so we can get out from under the reverse mortgage my dad took out one month before he died.

Good luck Laura, I know how it feels to be selling your dad's place. I hope the closing goes as planned.

One down, one to go.
The closing for the house we were selling was today. We are blessed that it was only on the market for 22 days before the contract was made. We are blessed that we did not have to bring OUR checkbook to the closing.
As for Dad's house, still awaiting being appointed PR... then I'll be able to do what is needed to sell that house....
