dh was furious at what the lady said yesterday. He said that the next time someone asks "What's wrong with her face?" We should say "What's wrong with yours?" sigh.... This post made me feel a little better. I was very sad, yesterday. My heart breaks for when her heart will be broken by something stupid that someone says to her.

Erica, Just wanted you to know that I'm with your DH! That's what I would say!!!!! Ok my favorites are: There's nothing wrong with that baby! UMMMMMM......he's 5 months old and just learning how to suck....what do you think?!?!?! When he's all stiffened up and hyperextending because he's having a 'storm' neurologically,' Oh look, he's pooping!' I swear if he pooped as much as people say it he wouldn't have gained a pound by now! And my all time fav..........'I bet if yoiu just gave him a bottle he'd be just fine!!' >:(Yeah, and if he aspirates then he could die right here in my arms!!!!I would rather give him a few more weeks of sucking and practicing the coordination of sucking and swallowing and then do another swallow study to be sure than take any chances!!!!! People are stupid....and it is more the adults than kids. Kids will just gravitate to B because he's a baby and when they see his G-tube and behaviors just seem to love him more! And if they have questions they are always very straight forward about asking. But I have had some adults act like he was made of glass when holding him and shoo their kids away from him if I'm hooking him up to be fed even turn their head like they are disgusted!

babs that is so sad, its the way Brody eats, can't believe people are so cruel and insensitive
Erica I love your dh comment, it would surely make them think of what they are saying
or Nothing is wrong with her face, she was born perfect, what's wrong with your manners

I even had a friend who I THOUGHT was one of my bestfriends say,'I guess I can't ever watch him for you....I don't think I could 'stomache' hooking that thing up to him! Yuck!' No, I don't talk to her anymore!

From my mom (of all people ) "You need to watch the Super Nanny. She's gets those kids straightened out in no time." Oh right, Mom. That makes me so mad. I told her that if the Super Nanny comes to our house I would be irate. Yes, that show has some very good ideas but my son is not in a family that isn't trying or working together or whatever...he has ADHD, ODD, anxiety, and a few other issues.

Oh But Jesse is just so cute..........AHHHHH. Like cuteness is going to solve all of his issues???
Personally I've had alot of these kind of comments come my way because I've limped pretty bad since I was 12. The one that stands out in my mind right now is the older couple who walked up to my husband (I was standing right there) and said to him in a whisper "does she have MS?). SHEESH....oh and this one is priceless. On the boardwalk as it was getting later...and the teenagers were out...To Phil one screamed..."hey don't go with her she probably can't (that famous 4 letter word that begins with f). I'd like to drown that kid in the ocean!!

I don't really belong to this board, however I was reading through these and thought of when my little man Gids was younger and had laryngomalacia and people would say to me "Oh, he sounds so cute when he makes those little noises" or "oh, he's pooping". Even now when he's upset he will get himself making those noises, and people will laugh at it. Oh yes, it's so cute... his airway is collapsing on it's self and it caused sleep apnea. Nothing cuter!!

I hope I am not offending by posting here but wanted to say that I just can't believe how well..how stupid people are! My cousin has CP and it used to make me so mad at the stares people would give. I was reading your replies and was annoyed at how people think it's okay to say those things. Mom and Dad taught us that just because someone did not look like us or act like us didn't mean they was something wrong with them. I wish everyone would have that way of thinking. I had a comment when I was pregnant with Sophia and the doctor thought she may have Downs (she had Turner's) and was not going to make it to many other things she had. She said that "at least you won't have to have take care of her forever". I was so mad I could see and feel myself smacking her hard on the face. I've done a tube feeding and it's not gross. It is just how they eat. Pepper spray is a wonderful idea! I hope that people realize that what they say is hurtful and wrong and you guys won't have to hear it. All your kids are so beautiful and wonderful!! Take care!

I was at the pharmacy picking up meds for my then baby (5 year old ). My Amber was pulling down on the stroller handles and making her pop a wheelie, to which my baby was squealing with delight. She was right next to me, and I wouldn't let her do anything to harm the baby. I kept hearing this lady behind me saying, "NO NO!" Then, "you be nice to that baby!". I thought she was talking to the little boy with her. She taps me on the shoulder and says, "you better watch that baby". I said, "We just got back from the doctor and she has bronchitis. That's why she is coughing". She said, "I'm not talking about the baby, I'm talking about her! (pointing at Amber). Amber didn't understand much at that time, and would just smile at you. She always looked guilty as heck. She said, "she is a stinker and is just mean as he** to that baby". I was irate instantly! I said, "She also is autistic (at that time we had been told autism) and doesn't understand if she is a bit rough. However I am right here and wouldn't let her hurt the baby". She says, "really? she doesn't LOOK autistic". She kept going on and on. Hello? How does autism look? So anyway I was buckling them into their carseats, and this lady walks out to her car. I wanted to hit her and say, "I'm sorry. I was looking for a brain. You didn't LOOK like you had a brain"
