Hi All,
I haven't posted here recently, but some of you may remember me from the last few years... my angel baby Isabella was stillborn at 23 weeks on 2008. I got pregnant again in 2011, but lost that baby (Charlotte) at 16+ weeks, again without ever finding a cause. After much begging, my husband said he would try once more, only until the end of the year. I found out on Dec 27 that I was pregnant again and started doing Lovenox injections daily after seeing the h/b on u/s at 6 weeks.
Here comes the CRAZY part... I had bloodwork taken at 9 weeks for the Materni21 test. For those who haven't heard of it yet, it is a new (just out in Oct), cutting-edge test that takes the mother's blood, seperates the cell-free fetal DNA from the plasma, and does chromesome testing. It is "supposed' to be 99+% accurate for T21, T18 and T13. Accoring to my doc, it is going to revolutionize prenatal testings and eventually eliminate cvs and amnios all-together.
This past Mon (at 10 wks and 5 days) I went in for my reg visit and the results... we were told that my Materni21 test came back positive for T21. I have the test in my hand: it says it is 99+% accurate. We were truly given no hope, and offered a CVS just as a formality.
So, I had the CVS yesterday at my MFM. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Hard to see the baby on u/s, looking so "normal" but at only 11 weeks there still isn't much to see. The MFM said she would rush the FISH test but didn't offer any hope either.
She called early this afternoon with the most shocking, amazing news. I will never forget her saying, "Your baby is fine. Your baby does not have Downs Syndrome". She was totally shocked, actualy told me to buy a lotto ticket! We talked to my regular OB after that and he was also shocked; although went on to tell me that I am the second Materni21 test that has come back with a false positive out of only a handful of tests down so far in his office. WTF? If I wasn't so happy, I'd be furious.
So, we will never know what happened... was it human error? Does the test have a higher false positive ratio than originally thought? My 5 yr old said "Mommy, I think I know what happened. The baby was sick, but God healed it.' I tend to think she is right. God worked a miracle.
Anyway, I am happy to report this wonderful news. Considering my history, I know we have a long way to go before I can hold a sweet baby in my arms, but this is certainly reason to praise God. I know most of you are beyond the point where you would have this test, but please spread the word to BEWARE, and always believe that miracles can happen!
PS. We found out baby is a GIRL
