Has anyone tried this? Does it work? I am so tired of these things, i get them daily and HAVE to take something for them. motrin doesnt work anymore and i DONT want to use the percocet.
I catch them in the morning and usually can get rid of them by afternoon but if not they are BAD! I am on a preventative but doesnt seem to work. Thanks for the info.

You can try taking a Tylenol and Advil at the same time...I find this works.
I'm a migrane sufferer as well, and I don't like the Migrane meds out there...too many side effects.
Anyway..try that combo..it usually works for me! (with a cup of coffee..if you can mange it)

Maria, I worked in a pharmacy 4 years ago. I looked at the ingrediants in regular Excedrin and Excedrin Migrane and they were THE EXACT SAME! Same amounts of everything. Now this was 4 years ago so maybe it's changed. But I suggest you hold them up side by side and check it out.

Maria, I swear by what Denise said except the fact I take a Tylenol and a Motrin together (Advil is the same thing) with like a can of reg Coke(Has to have the caffeine). I can't have migraine meds out there and not supposed to really have motrin but thats the ONLY way I can get rid of a Migraine is that then lay down for a few hrs.

Nope... Excederin Migraine and regular Excederin (not the aspirin free excederin) are the SAME... They just got FDA approval for additional labeling...
I swear by Excederine... and I suffer from what they diagnosed as Cluster headaches... which are basically (for me) migraines that come and stay for a week or two... Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a cluster now... ugh!
I had some Rx stuff, but ran out years ago... I tend now to go with the excederin, which usually kicks them down for me.
Another option is to sort of "compound" your own. Excederin is acetaminofen and aspirin and a little caffeine... so if you don't have excederin, just take a couple of tylenol, an aspirin, and drink a cup of tea...
Good luck!

I am seen by a neurologist for frequent migraines, and just a warning: If you take Excedrin regularly (which I did for years to help out with my headaches), it will work. However, it will also create more problems for you if you are indeed a true migraine sufferer. It will cause what are known as rebound headaches and trust me: you do NOT want to get caught in a cycle of these. They are hideous. Continue with your preventative stuff, Maria (by the way, what is it? I'm on Topomax), and then remember to avoid your food triggers. Do you know what yours are? Mine are peanuts. Sometimes they're just unavoidable, because stress or if my sleep pattern is interupted I'll just get one, (I find that keeping my sleep pattern mostly the same, if at all possible, helps), but hopefully you can find out what works best for you.
Good luck and I hope you can find a solution! I agree -- coffee and cokes are a must for us!! ;D
Hugs, Cath

Well, I don't know about them being the same but I take the Excedrin/Migrains and could not live without it. At the same time, though, I'm not sure that my headaches are migrains...they seem to occur right around ovulation then again around my period so they seem more hormone induced. I agree about the tylenol/motrin/coffee or coke suggestion as well.
Also, I found that I get hideous headaches if I eat too many BBQ chips. My senior year in high school my best friend and I discoved Middlesworth Party BBQ chips and we ate them a lot---I also spent my entire senior year with a headache---it was only a few years ago, however that I put 2 and 2 together. I can have a handful of them but if I eat too many (whihch I don't need to do anyways) the headache is BAD and the E for Migrains doesn't even help. So, all of that to say that I agree with Cathy in seeing if there isn't a food trigger.

My nuerologist wasnt VERY helpful....amitriptyline 10mg once at bedtime its the preventative. Then ALLOWED me to take 16 vicodin a month. BUT he didnt give me any meds to deal with the migraines when i get them?!? So i have to decide what i want to use, i have been using the GENERIC excedrin and they seem to really help me out.
I have to go back at the end of the month for another consulttation. My pain clinic gave me percocet and a muscle relaxer and i ONLY take the percs on a VERY bad headache. If i catch them early enough i can get rid of it before it gets awful.
I dont drink coffee OR soda. But i eat a milkyway a day, lol! I am NOT sure what triggers these i am wondering tho because they are DAILY if its caused by one of my other meds i am on. so really not sure.

Maria,
I know I use to get migraines like crazy...I went to the Neurologist and they gave me a list of foods to omit and I tell ya...I haven't really had one since. YOur diet and stress have alot to do with your migraines...another thing that worked for me was "working" the pressure point in my wrist. I think drs are quick to perscribe without thinking of ALL the alternatives that could be causing the problem in the first place (foods, stress etc).

Oh and I did want to add that regularly taking a preventive...i.e. Tylenol, will just make the problem worse over time...your body gets so use to it and goes through a "withdrawl" if you stop taking it...

the excedrin migraine is just with caffeine added
if caffeine doesn't stop your migraines than the excedrin migraine won't either
if you are still getting migraines on the amitripytyline you said they put you on call the neurologist back and ask for dose adjustment
once on a preventative you should get NO migraines, they also should do a cat scan and mri to rule out anything else

Maria
My daughter takes 100 mg of amitriptyline for the migraines at bedtime daily, her starting dose over 3 years ago now was 50 mg so 10mg seems ridicolous to me
than if she gets a headache it is 500 mg of tylenol immediately (we use the extended relief name brand)
than 1 hour after the tylenol if she still has a headache she takes maxalt (prescription)
in the past it was imitrix and topamax both did nothing for her
we also just learned this week she has to take advil or similiar 400 mg 1 hour prior to swimming or any exposure to chemicals
if her headaches continue when exposed to the sun outside, it will be prescription sunglasses first than a reevaluation to see what is going on by cat scan and mri
she got about 4-5 break through headaches in the summer when outside really bad ones so this is the new plan
she likes to swim and swimming is good for her but she has a chlorine allergy and even with the asthma medication for prevention of breathing issues, allergy medication and epson salt sprayed on her immediately the effects of the chlorine were causing severe migraines and other issues so this is the new plan
caffeine will help a migraine also if you can find something with caffeine that could help you
